Venita Brooks Sims

Venita Brooks-Sims transitioned from this life on Sunday, July 14, 2024 (63) in New Haven, CT. Venita was born to the late Joseph Clifton Brooks and the late Thelma Taylor Lovette Brooks on August 30, 1960 in New Haven, CT. Venita attended Catholic Schools from Kindergarten through Grade 8. She transferred to James Hillhouse High School and graduated in 1978. In 1977 she met the love of her life, Milton S. Sims (late). The two married in July 1, 1999. In 2010, Venita obtained an Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Science from Briarwood College. Venita loved the Lord since she was a child. She attended Immanuel Baptist Church, New Haven under the tutelage of the late Curtis M. Cofield. Later in years, Venita found a permanent church home at Christian Union Full Gospel Outreach Ministries under the tutelage Apostle Eunice E. Tucker, Pastor Bernadette Moore. It was under this leadership that Venita became a member of the senior choir and served on the Mother’s Board. Venita worked various jobs during throughout her life. She worked at SNET telephone company, Yale New Haven Hospital (housekeeping), and as an account assistant at Yale University until she retired in 2006. Venita loved taking care of people, especially the elderly. After retirement, Venita worked part-time as a home health aide. It warmed Venita’s heart to cook, clean, and go grocery shop for her clients. Venita enjoyed volunteering at food pantries and delivering bags of food to people, in her own special way, she felt like this was her ministry. To those of you who had the pleasure of knowing Venita, you would know how much she loved and supported people. Venita would become your biggest cheerleader, encouraging you to succeed. Venita loved to have a good time. She laugh out loud. She would laugh so much until her stomach hurt. Her contagious laughter could fill any room. Venita leaves to cherish her memory: three children: L’Tanya Brooks-Draughn (Ralph), Milton Brooks (Melony), and Takyara Brooks all of New Haven, CT; six grandchildren: Keniya Brooks, Ralquel Draughn, Mahlanee Brooks, Milton Brooks, Jr., Ralph Draughn II, and MeKenzie all of New Haven, CT; one bonus grandson: Jason Draughn (Hamden); one uncle Donald Brooks of Meriden, CT; three sisters-in-law: Vinita Adams-Lovette of West Haven, CT, Linda Sims Jefferys (William) of Hamden, CT, Cindy Sims of New Haven, CT; two brothers-in law: Daniel Sims of New Haven, CT and Irvin Mosley (Doretha) of Florida. Venita has a host of nephews (special nephew: David Lovette of West Haven, CT), nieces, cousins, and friends. Venita was predeceased by her father, Joseph C. Brooks; mother, Thelma Brooks; husband, Milton Sims; two brothers: Eugene Lovette, Jr., Victor Brooks; two brothers-in-law: Matthew Sims and Dennis Sims; one sister-in-law Debra Sims; one nephew: Eugene Lovett III; a special aunt: Carrie Taylor Batts; and special cousin, Richard Batts.
