Mother Velar McClam Woods born August 21 1915 departed this life December 24, 2006 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Mother Velar McClam Woods was the wife of the late Rev. Jackson McClam from that union 10 children were born at which 5 died as babies and five survived. Later in her life she married the late Deacon Nathan Woods. Mother Velar was a member of The Corinth Temple U.F.W.B Church under the leadership of Bishop L. N. Bordeaux. She later joined the Union Disciple U.F.B. Church June 11, 1978 under the leadership of her son Bishop Lethenial McClam, where she served faithfully until her health failed. Before leaving Kingstree, South Carolina Mother served at the Goodwill F.W. Baptist Church. Mother Velar McClam Woods leaves to cherish her memories one son Bishop Lethenial McClam of Haven, 3 brothers Leroy Mayes , Mose Mayes of New Haven, & Robert Mayes of Philadelphia, PA. She also leaves a legacy of 22 grand children, 46 great grand children, 23 great great grandchildren. She also leaves daughter-in-laws Mary McClam, Oliva McClam m of Ne w Haven, Mary McClam of Philiadelphia, PA, Maggie McClam of Salters, S.C., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. She was predeceased by four sons John Wesley McClam, Prince Harold McClam, David McClam, Esaw McClam Three brothers Curley Mayes, Fred Mayes, Weldon Mayes, sister Pernice Hunter, daughter-in-law Cora Lee McClam, sister- in-laws Helen Mayes, Kathleen Mayes,K.C. Mayes, Daisy Mayes,. Grandchildren Doris McClam, Riccardo McClam and Harold McClam.
