Thelma Harris

Thelma Williams Harris, born the third child of six children to the late Wade and Amanda Richardson Williams. She was born on April 29, 1926, in Ridgeway, South Carolina. Thelma was educated at Thorn Tree School in Ridgeway, SC. She gave her life to Jesus at an early age when she joined White Oak Baptist Church #2. She remained a member until she relocated to High Point, NC with her husband, Henry B. Harris, Sr. She later relocated to New Haven, CT to be closer to family. She worked as a toy assembler at the AC Gilbert Toy Company and she worked as a domestic engineer. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, baking cakes, playing checkers, which she was awesome, and she loved traveling. Thelma was affectionately called “Grammy” by many who loved her. She had such a big loving heart! Thelma leaves to cherish her precious memories, her five children: Henry (Barbara)Harris (Hamden, CT), Kathleen H. Marable (Wallingford, CT), Kenneth (Mary) Harris (West Haven, CT), Margaret (Webster) Zackery (Hamden, CT) and Paul (Cassandra) Harris (New Haven, CT) to miss her dearly. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, two special nieces, Murline Williams and Arleen Moore, who were like her daughters, 12 grandchildren, many great grands and great great grands, two goddaughters, Shawni Williams and Patricia Saulsbury, friends and acquaintances from the Monterey Place where she resided. Thelma was predeceased by her parents, Wade and Amanda Richardson Williams, her husband, Henry B. Harris, Sr and her siblings, Robert T. Williams, Mary W. Mason, Cleo Williams, Ruth Moore, and Melvin Williams, and a daughter-in-law, Stella R Harris. God’s Newest Angel Jesus stood smiling with arms open wide and millions of angels were standing nearby. A brand-new arrival was heading your way and as they waited, you could hear them say “she fought hard, and long don’t you agree?” “And now she’s coming, her savior to see”. “Lord, how long?” they were heard to ask. “Until she is here, and God‘s presence to bask?” “it won’t be long”, was His soft reply. “Just a few more seconds, then home she will fly”. The angels grew silent as they waited to hear, but there was no sorrow nor was there a tear. Then came the shout, “she’s on her way!” God’s newest angel they welcomed that day!
