Sophie Vargas

Sophie Mae Lucinda Moss-Vargas (62) of Meriden, CT, transitioned peacefully on August 3, 2021. On April 11, 1959, Sophie was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, to the late Eddie L. and Judy H. Moss. She found eternal peace on August 3, 2021. She was born to the late Eddie L and Rev. Judy H Moss. Sophie was the manager of patient financial services at Midstate Medical Center and was a long-term employee of Pratt & Whitney. She also took pride in her capacity as Pastor of Administration of Apostolic Community Church of Jesus and Ministries in Meriden, Connecticut, since November 2001. She graduated from Orville H. Platt High School. She continued her education at Post University for Business Administration and earned her bachelor's degree from Computer Processing Institute. At a very young age, she received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She then committed her life to Christ, her Lord, and Savior under the Leadership of the late Rev Emily H. Perris at Apostolic Faith Church in Meriden, Connecticut. Always the avid volunteer, Sophie led the Praise Team and served as an active member of the Connecticut District Council Missionary Auxiliary. An amazingly talented vocalist, she traveled and performed as a member of the Salvationettes. The group included Ramona West-Hunter, Delcy West, and the late Carol Schiavo (KK). Always the philanthropist, she co-founded with her mother and best friend, the late Judy H. Moss. They founded two non-profit organizations called Global TEARS Ministries and Women of Royalty. Both were created to motivate and inspire others to achieve a higher level of spirituality and self-awareness. Sophie found joy in many things, including researching and trying new recipes, extreme couponing, and traveling with her husband. She also enjoyed her daily talks with her two brothers and her daily 30 minute Facetime calls with her grandchildren. She was known for her signature dishes, Chocolate Lovers Delight, stuffed shrimp, lasagna, and Broccoli Salad. Sophie was married for 26 years to Carlos A. Vargas Sr., two amazing daughters, Judyya Moss Chisolm & her husband Harold and Ashja B Vargas. She also leaves two thoughtful and intelligent sons Carlos A Vargas Jr, Adriel D Vargas, and was predeceased by her step-son Nelson A Vargas. Sophie leaves behind her brothers Dante and his wife Crystal, Darryl, Eddie Jr., and Tobias. She also leaves behind the loves of her life, her grandchildren Donavon, Jahmai, Lyric-Judy, and Harold-Apollo. In addition, she leaves two God-Daughters, Shunta P. Linguard (Atlanta) and Lucretia Suggs, three God-Sons, Jayvon West-Buttram, Nyjel Byrd, and Ka'lil S. Walton. She leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends, her Mother-in-Law, Victoria Vargas, two brothers-in-law, Ralph and Luis Vargas, Sisters-in-law, Carmen, and Damaris Vargas, Marla Early-Moss, and Amanda Moss. Sophie was predeceased by three brothers David, Douglas, and Doreon, and sister-in-law Barbara Hutch-Moss.
