Sherrill Chance

Sherrill Jean Garland was born in Georgetown, South Carolina to Linwood and Mildred Garland on February 19, 1963. The family moved from South Carolina to Connecticut in 1967 where they continue to reside. Sherrill graduated from James Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT, and worked in home healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Sherrill worked as an admission receptionist for Yale at Saint Raphael where she was loved and respected by staff and patients. Sherrill also held various positions throughout her life in retail and lived in East Orange NJ, Atlanta, GA and even in California for a short time. Sherrill eventually moved back to Connecticut to be closer to her family. In her youth, Sherrill and her siblings enjoyed singing in the choir at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in New Haven, CT. Under the ministry of the Reverend Bob Pulley, Sherrill came to accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized with the Holy Spirit. In her adult years, Sherrill worshiped with her family at Christ Christian Church and blessed the congregation with her loving smile and big hugs every time she entered the sanctuary. Sherrill openly expressed her love for each of us, and to her Church family she was always kind, always willing to participate and was passionate in her praise. Sherrill loved to worship God and often requested her favorite songs to be sung by the praise team (cousin Ronnie’s wife and daughter). Sherrill often shared a testimony during Sunday Morning Service and shared moving, passionate testimony during Wednesday Night Bible Study. Sherrill testified that she loved the Lord and enjoyed learning more and more about him. To those at Christ Christian Church Sherrill was bubbly, jovial, loving, and just a good hearted, sweet natured person. Sherrill inherited her father’s sense of humor and was always willing crack a joke and share a smile. The congregation at Christ Christian Church loved her as much as she loved them. Sherrill is preceded in death by her husband Frank Chance. Sherrill leaves to mourn her Parents and 5 siblings; Linwood Garland Jr, Frances Garland, Mildred Dean Garland, Lorenzo Garland and Terry Denison and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and countless Friends. Sherrill also left behind who she lovingly referred to as her little boy… her dog Dino. Those two were joined at the hip, if you spent more than 5 minutes in their home you would immediately be reminded of the song, “When I move you move”! Sherrill’s life is a testament of selflessness, she would always do for others before doing for herself. She cultivated a very close and dear relationship with her niece Catena Jackson. Sherrill Jean Garland Chance has left us far too soon and will forever be in our hearts.
