Ronnie Stevens

Ronnie Dale Stevens entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at his home in Hamden, Connecticut. Born on November 27, 1958 in Clarendon, North Carolina, he was the beloved son of Shirley Stevens and the late Amos Stevens. At an early age, Ronnie relocated with his family to New Haven, Connecticut where he spent the majority of his life. A graduate of Lee High School of New Haven, Ronnie later pursued a career in carpentry– a trade he practiced skillfully for over a decade. Ronnie was united in holy matrimony to the late Sheila (Kindred) Stevens and together they shared a life filled with love, partnership and family. Those who knew Ronnie understood that family was his greatest priority. Known for his protective nature, he would go to great lengths to support and defend those he loved. His presence was strong and deeply felt. Beyond his protective spirit, Ronnie also had a lighter side that brought joy to those around him, often gently teasing those around just to spark a smile or laugh. He also had a great love for food and it was well known that he never missed an opportunity to inquire about what was cooking in the kitchen. Family gatherings brought him much joy, especially when they involved a home cooked meal, something he relished and looked forward to. It was not uncommon for him to call up loved ones and ask “Boot, you cooking?” a phrase that will echo fondly in the hearts of his family. A devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and cherished friend, Ronnie leaves to honor his memory: his loving mother Shirley Stevens of New Haven, Connecticut; one aunt, Shirley Chapman of Hamden, Connecticut; his children Ronnie Dale Stevens Jr., Ronisha Caprice Stevens and Amos (Shana) Stevens; his grandchildren, Jyaire Brown and Esme Stevens; his sisters, Cynthia Cotten, Pamela (Bernice) Mills and Lisa Stevens; two God sisters, Jennifer Hall and Sharon Todd- Sumpter all of New Haven, Connecticut; four nieces; two nephews; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; one great-great nephew; and many other beloved relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his devoted wife Sheila Stevens and his father Amos Stevens. Though we mourn his absence, it is his presence we will miss most–the sound of his laughter, the warmth of his love, the strength of his embrace and the joy he brought to every gathering. His memory will forever remain in our hearts, cherished and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
