Maryann Witherspoon

Maryann Witherspoon of Meriden, Connecticut, received the call to her eternal rest on January 13, 2024. Maryann Witherspoon was born on October 1, 1944, in the Tin City neighborhood of Wallace, North Carolina to the late Johnny Witherspoon and the late Geneva Witherspoon. Early in life, Maryann was a faithful member of Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church under the leadership of her sister, Pastor Carrie McFadden. In 1988, Maryann relocated to Sumter, South Carolina, where she lived for several years. In 2004, Maryann relocated to New Haven, CT where she became a faithful member of Joy Temple Church under the leadership of Bishop Dozier C. Shields. Maryann was known for her high soprano voice, singing alongside her mother and sisters, in the Gospel group, The Morning Stars of New Haven, CT. Maryann was an excellent cook, she loved to joke around and have fun, but her favorite thing to do was to watch wrestling on TV. Maryann leaves to cherish her loving memory, one son, Timmy Witherspoon (Barbara Ann) of Hamden, CT. Four sisters, Carrie McFadden of Sumter, SC, Alene McKnight (Bobby), and Lois McFadden of New Haven, CT, Virginia Baker of Wedgefield, SC, and one brother, Ernest McKnight of Baltimore, MD. Three grandchildren, Terrell Kelly, Timprea Atkinson Rawls (Timothy) of Hamden, CT, and TJ Witherspoon of New Haven, CT, and nine great- grandchildren. Also left to cherish her loving memory is her special niece and caregiver, Martha Singleton (Harold) of Meriden, CT as well as special nieces Barbara Wilkes, Linda Mitchell and, Daisy Witherspoon, a very special great-niece, Tye McFadden, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Maryann was predeceased by one brother, John Witherspoon, and sisters, Gladys Moore, Helen McFadden, Lillie Moore, and Annie Witherspoon. Maryann was loved by all and will be missed by the same! Scripture: For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. II Timothy 4:6-8(KJV).
