Martha Wright

Martha Jane Graham Wright, 85, of New Haven, CT entered into eternal rest on March 4, 2023. Martha was born on August 7, 1937 in Bucksport, South Carolina to the late Deacon Fred Douglas Graham and Edna Mae Davis Graham. Martha graduated from Whittemore High School in Conway, SC in 1955. Throughout her youth and teenage years, Martha participated in a host of activities. She played basketball in high school. Martha along with 5 of her sisters established a singing group known as The Graham Sisters; they sang several of their songs live on the local radio station. Martha was also well known for swing dancing in her hometown and surrounding area. After graduation she met and married Abraham D. Wright in 1961. From their union six children were born. Martha worked for Yale University at Yale New Haven Hospital as a Blood-Gas Technician Assistant for 18 years prior to her retirement in 1993. Upon her retirement, Martha spent time cooking, reading her Bible, knitting, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Martha is survived by her loving children Regina Ann Brown and husband Edward Brown, Randall Douglas Wright Sr., Kennita Gale Wright and partner Benjamin Bell, Jermaine Carter Wright and wife Dolores Wright, Darsheena Wright and partner Raphael Benjamin; grandchildren F. James Diggs III, Candace J. Wright, Tambria Bellamy, Erik S. Diggs, Jordan K. Diggs and wife Emily Diggs, Randall D. Wright Jr., Brandon T. Mills, Aja M. Diggs, Tyra J. Wright, Elijah E. Wright, Jermaine C. Wright Jr.; step grandchildren Erica Brown (Saniyah), Edward F. Brown, and Kyra Brown; great grandchildren Maurice Bellamy, Shanelle-Inanna M. Diggs, Theodore E. Diggs and Leilany J. Diggs. She is also survived by sisters Juanita Jones (of Bucksport/ Conway, SC), Theresa Graham (of Bucksport/ Conway, SC), Mary Duarte (of Wilson, NC), Princeann Graham (of Newark, NJ), Virginia Blackmon (of New Haven, CT); brothers Albert Graham and wife Olivia Graham (of Marion, SC), Donnie Lee Graham and wife Taggert Graham (of Conway, SC); adopted siblings Joyce Ann Mack and husband Levi Mack (of Myrtle Beach, SC), Deborah Graham (of Charleston, SC), Mary Tammy Burnett (of Florence, SC) and Sylvia Graham (of Myrtle Beach, SC); Margie McCray and husband Kenneth McCray (of Bucksport/ Conway, SC); Wanda Graham (of Conway, SC), Vantous Graham (of Myrtle Beach, SC), Maurice Graham (of Myrtle Beach) and Abigail Graham (of Myrtle Beach, SC). Martha is also survived by sisters-in-law Rosenell Graham and Louise Wright, a large host of relatives, friends and loved ones. Special great-nephew Darryl Christopher Drayton. Martha was predeceased by husband Abraham D. Wright and daughter Angela Wright; brothers Joseph Graham, MacArthur Graham, Ernest Graham, Hugh-Jean Graham; sisters Janie Lou Bellamy, Lillian Brown, Lou Jean Sherman, Betty Lou Hemmingway and Albertha Graham.
