Mae A Warren

Mae Alice Hines Warren, daughter of the late John Ropell Hines and Elnora Keyes Hines Finch, was born on March 28, 1943, in Oriental, North Carolina. Mae departed this life on April 14, 2021, surrounded by her family. At an early age, Mae became spiritually committed and joined Pilgrim Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Mae was a 1960 graduate of Pamlico County Training School and attended Elizabeth City State Teacher College. Mae relocated to New Haven, CT in 1966, where she met and married the late Hubert Warren. They were married for over 50 years. From their union, she gave birth to her beloved daughter Pia. Mae retired as a Library Page at Miller Memorial Central Library. She was a member of Community Baptist Church for over 40 years. Mae enjoyed serving on the CBC Culinary Ministry, Nominating Committee, Church Food Bank and Flower Ministry. Mae’s grandchildren Naja and Neil were the apples of her eye. She was so proud of their accomplishments and supported everything they did. They cherished being picked up by their Grandma after school as they always had many after-school adventures. Mae enjoyed planting flowers and working in her yard. She loved shopping for bargains and buying anything in the color red. Mae enjoyed wearing nice church hats and had a vast collection. She loved eating blue crabs and insisted the best blue crabs came from her hometown of Oriental North Carolina. Mae’s big smile and sense of humor always brightened any room. Mae had an exuberant personality, loved to laugh, talk to people and tell stories. She enjoyed attending family reunions, visiting her sisters, talking on the phone especially with her brother and sitting on the front porch watching the neighborhood. Mae leaves to celebrate her blessed life, her daughter Pia Grasty and husband Anthony; Granddaughter Naja Grasty and Grandson Neil Grasty. Her sisters Barbara Hines Jenkins and Anne Hines Walston, and Ret. Lt. Colonel Ellis (Lorraine) Hines, Uncle Alfred (Ossie) Keyes, Sisters-in-law Rosia Warren-Blue and Clara Christine Warren-Moore, and Brother-in-law Chavis Warren. Stepsons Hubert (Fredia) Warren Jr. and Johnny (Zanetta) Warren. Special Cousins Mary Watkins and Janice Gomez and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert Warren, Father John Ropell Hines, Mother Elnora Hines Finch, and Brother John Ropell Hines. The Family would like to thank everyone for all their prayers and support throughout the years and continue to keep us in prayer.
