Lynwood Branham Jr.

Lynwood Hill Branham Jr. was born March 15th, 1965 to Linwood Branham and Lazelle Knight in New Haven, CT. He leaves behind his devoted wife Tanya Branham and his four children: Jenel Burke, Daniel (Davina) Burke, Troi Branham and Lynnae Branham and one grandson Jedan Burke-Inniss. He also leaves behind his parents, Lazelle Mullings, Linwood Branham and stepfather Donald Mullings, three brothers Count, Jahim, and Khalil Branham, three sisters Ayesha Branham, Kera (Charles) Boone and Erica Mullings. His family includes a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends to cherish his memories. Lynwood was educated in the New Haven Public School System where he excelled at academics as well as sports while attending his beloved, James Hillhouse High School. He went on to attend and graduate from Trinity College of Hartford, CT. Lynwood worked at several insurance companies (The Hartford, Nationwide, State Farm, and Progressive) as a Senior Claims Adjuster for many years. Six years ago, he switched careers to begin a new career at InRoads, Inc. where he mentored young adults, and helped them secure paid summer internships as a Senior Regional Manager. Lynwood truly enjoyed what he was doing because it involved working with young people. Lynwood coached and mentored children from 8 years old to high school in most sports (more specifically Baseball, Basketball, and Football; three sports that he loved). He wasn’t just a Coach on the field, he was the father figure that many didn’t have and was loved by so many players, as well as their families. He coached many years with the Pop Smith Little League (Baseball), Pop Warner Football, at Betsy Ross Middle School (Basketball and Football), Sheridan Middle School (Basketball and Football), The New Haven Grays (Baseball) The New Haven Heat (AAU Basketball), Farnam Neighborhood House (Basketball), Wilbur Cross (Baseball), Hillhouse (Football and Baseball), Hyde Leadership (Baseball), and was also an IAABO certified referee (Basketball). In addition, he was also a member of the Oriental Lodge, No. 6. Over the years, he received numerous awards, honors, and recognition from numerous organizations, for his dedication to the youth and to the city of New Haven. Lynwood had a laugh that when you heard it, you began to laugh as well. Lynwood was a cherished husband, son, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, leader, and mentor to so many people, and he will be tremendously missed by his many friends that he touched, and his family.
