Louise L. Smith

Sister Louise Lewis Smith was born March 3, 1939, to the late Rachel Ann & Leland Lewis in Whiteville, NC. Sis. Smith began employment at Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Olin) in 1966. Winchester was one of the largest firearm manufacturers of the twentieth century, originating in New Haven. Sis. Smith worked in the parts and polish department for over 35 yrs until her retirement. Louise was a devoted member of Union Temple Free Will Baptist Church for over 50 years under the leadership of the late Bishop Herman A. Epps before relocating to North Carolina in 2015. Upon relocation, Louise reunited to the church of her youth where she was baptized and converted, The Mill Branch Missionary Baptist Church, now under the leadership of Rev. John Langley. Louise relocated back to CT in 2023 where she was recently reinstated at Union Temple Church under the leadership of Pastor Elmer P. Hardy Jr. During her years of membership at Union Temple she attended prayer meetings, 6am morning prayer, and was a devoted member of the Missionary Ministry. Louise will always be remembered as a lifelong missionary. She dedicated time to travel far and near to pray for those in need. When God put a word in her spirit she had to move. No matter where she was, when she saw a need, she would not hesitate to anoint & pray. If she was traveling to the hospital, visiting the sick, feeding the Homeless or met you in the parking lot she would have prayer, and sometimes revival. Louise was a pioneer of the gospel, and a prayer warrior. Her faith in God was her guiding light. She never wavered. She always stayed the course. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my Shepard I shall not want….” She was dedicated to her walk with Christ and spending time with her children, grand-children, great-grandchildren, friends, and family. Louise never met a stranger. She did not mind speaking or praying with anyone. Her wisdom and powerful spirit of discernment lead her to counsel and save many lives and marriages. Louise life and legacy will never be forgotten. She will always be the embodiment of Proverbs 31:10. Louise leaves to cherish her loving memory and family legacy to; her daughter, Joanne S. Jackson of Hamden, CT; her son, Katro Storm of CT; her Daughter-in-law Hilda Toon Smith (Marcus) of Whiteville, NC; Sisters Cora Lee Giles of Kileen, Texas and Dorothy Mae Johnson of Hamden, CT; Brother-In-Law John Oliver (Minnie) of Ohio; 3 sister-in-law, Mother Rachel Bellamy of West Haven, CT, Alice Smith of Hamden, CT, Betty Lewis of Whiteville, NC; 14 Grandchildren, 17 Great-Grandchildren, 5 God Children Elder Patricia Holley, Apostle Martha Gould, Queenie Bromell, Shadae Bellamy, and Reggie Higgins; 1 God-Brother Robert Cokley, and a host of nieces and nephews. Louise was predeceased by her husband Norman C. Smith, her sister’s Annie Rachel Maclin, Minnie Oliver, Leler Beatrice Oliver, her brother’s Joe & Lee Lewis; Daughter Carol L. Smith, her son Marcus E. Smith; Grandson Marcus E. Gore Louise also leaves to cherish her special friends & family Annie Bellamy, Dora Mae Edge, Velma Holder, Elder Barbara Beauford, and Mattie Smith.
