Letha Mae Roberson-Porter

In loving memory of Letha Mae Roberson-Porter “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” -Psalms 147:3 Letha Mae Roberson-Porter, age 79, passed away on August 23, 2024, at Saint Raphael Hospital in New Haven Connecticut surrounded by her loving children. Letha lived a life full of love, laughter, and kindness. Letha was born on July 20, 1945, in Greenville, North Carolina to the late Annie Mae and William Roberson. Letha was predeceased by sisters, Mary Andrews, Frances Mercer and Betty Marie Davis. Survived by sister Annie Roberson Ewings, (Hurley), and one brother; William Oscar Roberson, (Edna). Letha attended and graduated from Suggs High School in Farmville North Carolina where she later continued her education and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. On July 14,1967, she married the love of her life, Robert “aka Bob” and they resided in New Haven, Connecticut for the next thirty years, establishing their beautiful family. Letha then worked for Southern CT State University as a custodian for over twenty years, where she later retired. Outside of her career, Letha went on to help and assist with raising eighteen grandchildren. Known for her generous heart, beautiful smile, and unapologetic sassiness; Letha was a dedicated member of the usher board at New Growth Praise Center under her dearest longtime friend, Pastor Betty Marks. During Letha’s free time, she enjoyed going to the casino with her dearest friend Louise Richardson to play the penny slots. Simple activities such as watching her game shows or soap operas on the sofa were days, she would consider to be good ones. Cooking for everyone while listening to music and doing her famous two-step added just the right amount of love into her delicious, one-of-a-kind, sweet potato pie. Waking up early to go to the flea market and finding tag sales was a weekend ritual we are truly going to miss. She was known for her love of gardening, allowing her home to be surrounded by vibrant colors and a view of beautiful flowers. Letha’s kindness and compassion touched the lives of many. But, most importantly Letha was known for her love of being with family. A devoted wife and mother, Letha reunites with her late husband Robert Porter. She is survived by her five children Doletha Roberson-Greer (Michael); Bernice Porter, Tammie Porter, and Robert Porter all from New Haven, Connecticut; and Audrey Porter of Robersonville, North Carolina. Eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; all of which she has left an incredible mark on and will forever be missed by. Sister-in-laws Isabella Porter-Hyman; Bernice Porter Garnett, (Carl); Martha P. Chance, (Fredrick) and brother-in-law Arthaniel Porter. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, family and friends will miss her dearly. “Jesus said unto her, ‘I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.’ “ -John 11:25-26
