Deacon John Allen Manley Sr.

John Allen Manley, Sr. peacefully departed this life on June 18, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born on June 11, 1936. in Mount Olive, North Carolina, to the late Annie Laura Manley and Robert Manley. John was a hardworking and dedicated provider who believed in the value of honest labor. He was employed for many years at the Connecticut Mental Health Center, where he faithfully served until his retirement. Never one to sit idle, he loved playing the guitar and also enjoyed buying and selling scrap metal, which became both a hobby and an additional source of income. Some of his favorite eating spots were, Barbara's Restaurant, Frankie's, Popeye's, Dunkin' Donuts and Josie's kitchen. A man of unwavering faith, John devoted his life to the service of God. For more than 40 years, he faithfully served as a Deacon at St. Stephen's Pentecostal Church, located at 856 Congress Avenue, under the leadership of Overseer David Atkins. John was a member of St. Stephen's Church until the time of his passing. He was a faithful member of the male chorus where he was known for the song he led, "Nobody Knows". His commitment to the ministry, love for his church family, and willingness to serve made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. John cherished his family and found great joy in spending time with those he loved. His life was a testament to perseverance, humility, faith, and dedication. His wisdom, quiet strength, and generous heart will forever be remembered by all whose lives he touched. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his children; Lenora "Josh" Parks, Josephine "Josie" Parks, Curtis Parks, Sr., Linda Manley and Davita "Punkin" Prescott. He is also lovingly remembered by his surviving siblings; Lue Virginia Manley, Samuel Lee Manley. A special granddaughter; Natasha Parks-Davis (Ole Matasha) and one goddaughter; Quintina Relaford. In addition to a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his love and legacy. John was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife, Alberta Mae Manley; his sons, John Manley, Jr. and Leonard J. Parks; his sisters, Hattie Bell Manley, Bertha Mae Miller, Marguerite Manley-Robinson, and Willie Manley; and his brothers, Robert Lee Manley, James Manley, Jessie Manley, and Raymond Manley. Though he has departed from this earthly life, his legacy of faith, hard work, kindness, and unwavering love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
