Henry McMillan

Henry McMillan, son of the late Della Lewis Vereen and Ernest McMillan Sr, was born on May 31, 1951, in Whiteville, NC, and departed this life peacefully on December 18, 2024. Throughout Henry’s life, he was known for his frankness, wittiness, honesty, and being a deep thinker; traits that endeared him to all who knew him. He retired from G&O Manufacturing and continued his working career driving trucks for the United States Post Office. He is remembered for being a “straight shooter” by his “tell it like it is” style, but who also had a protective, soft, nurturing side to his family. He faced life's challenges with resilience and grace, always prioritizing the well-being and dedication to family and loved ones. His legacy is one of love, strength, unwavering commitment to family, and his enduring spirit. His weekend footprints can be found around Newhallville (aka the “Ville” – as he called it) working on cars, hanging with friends or at Sam’s Barber Shop. He was devoted to watching wrestling, attending car racing at Waterford Speedway and in Englishtown, NJ. He leaves to cherish his memory of a devoted wife, Dorothy McMillan; four loving children: daughters Shaquilla McMillan, Andrea (Vince) Williams, Chandra Winford, and a son, Henry Barfield; nine grandchildren: Nyijal McMillan and Damiya Robinson whom he loved and assisted in raising as his own, Terri and Lillie McMillan, Antrell Armour, Samonte Holloway, Khalyia Monroe, Adiah Winford, and Indya Barfield ; one great grandson. He also leaves two devoted brothers: James J. (Joyce) Vereen Jr. of North Carolina, and Ernest McMillon, Jr; three sisters: Linda McMillon, Sharon (Arthur) Chapman, and Esther Lean Harris; a cousin/sister Lillie Mae (Ronnie) Smith of North Carolina and a special niece/sister Cheryl Lean (Kevin) Myers of New Haven, CT , special aunts Fennie Livingston, Rosa Lee Holmes, Annie Ruth Smith, and Mable Munn; special brother in laws: Bishop Elijiah Davis, Jr. and Deacon Joe J. Davis: and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Henry's memory will be cherished by his surviving family members, who will continue to honor his life and the values he instilled in them. Henry is preceded in death by two sons, Anthony McMillan and Andre Davis; two brothers, Mike McMillon and Cleo Vereen- a brother who passed during infancy. Despite these profound losses, he remained a pillar of strength for his family, offering support and guidance through difficult times Henry's life was a testament to the power of love and resilience. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. As we remember Henry, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure for generations.
