Gaynl Roberts

Gaynl affectionately known as Bird, Rabbit, Queen and Gaintheworld received her education in the New Haven Public School System. Early on she attended Prince Street School, Roberto Clemente Middle School, Richard C. Lee High School, Class of ‘84, Gateway Community College, The Sawyer School of Business/Medical Teaching, Northeastern District Learning Center and Christian Leadership Bible College. She was joined in marriage on October 6, 2012 to Elder Gregory O. Roberts the love of her life. Gaynl was employed at the Jewish Home for the Aged as a Certified Nurse Aid for 17 years and at the Cornell Scott Hill Health Center as a Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist and Wellness Educator. Gaynl’s favorite football team was the Pittsburgh Steelers and her favorite basketball team was New York Knicks. Gaynl’s favorite times of the year besides her birthday were Super Bowl, Easter and Thanksgiving. Gaynl loved reading, traveling and was a lover of R & B and Gospel music. Her favorite gospel artists were Yolanda Adams and the late Daryl Coley. Gaynl was a member of the Thomas Chapel Church of Christ where she served in many capacities over the years. She was a member of the Young Adult Choir, Praise Team, Deaconess Board, Missionary, Trustee, Church Clerk, Church Financial Clerk and Pastor’s Secretary. She was previously President of the Nurse’s Unit, Usher Board and Sunday School Teacher. But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: he shall receive me. Psalm 49:15 Gaynl leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Elder Gregory O. Roberts, one son Ronnie C. Nelson, Jr. (Elena), a cousin whom she raised as a son, Antwan Taylor, one grandson, Jayden R. Nelson, one granddaughter, Zuri M. Nelson and an honorary granddaughter, Amani G. Dumbuya, four brothers Gino & Eric Pringle, Andre Brooks and Daniel Phil, three sisters Mone’t DurhamJones, Joceyln Griffen, Esq. and Salawne Brooks. Nieces Arleisha Wright (Derrick), Canei Browning, Errin Jones, Giavonna Pringle, Aleciya Pringle, Aleha Jenkins and Jasmine Cort (Asa). Honorary nieces, Alexa and Ashlyn Mallard, Taylor Lacey and Jenia Whitney. Nephews Keithon Johnson, Darrell “Nuss” Spears, Robert and Kennies Brown, Isaiah Jenkins and Adam Robinson. God-children Ikee McCloud, Ahmia Bell, Al and Alnae Lilly, Alexis and Brandon Miller, Anthony L. Miller, Kyla Roberts and Tauri Jenell. Honorary God-child Marshall Davis. Godmother Linda Waters and Spiritual Mother, Jennie Edwards and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws (the Roberts) and her dog, Duke. Gaynl was pre-deceased by her parents, maternal grandmother, maternal great-grandparents, Mary Dennison and Andrew Smalls, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
