Dora L. Grier

Dora Lee Lance-Grier age 70 was born on June 30, 1953 to the late Samuel and Wilhemina Murray Lance in Georgetown, SC. On July 10, 2023 Dora was called home to be with the Lord. Her battle is over, no more pain or suffering. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late James Thomas Grier, Sr. in 1969, this union was blessed with two children, James Thomas Grier, Jr. and Sharon Ann Grier-Kellman who preceded her in death. She attended Plantersville Elementary and Choppee High School in Georgetown, SC. She moved to New Haven, CT where she resided until God called her home. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, she was baptized at Old Mount Carmel Baptist in Plantersville, SC. She later joined Christian Union Freewill Baptist Church in West Haven, CT and became a faithful member serving on many ministries such as the Usher Board, Choir and doing the announcements for years. She worked for O.S. Mossberg & Sons as well as Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for many years. She played on Pratt & Whitney’s softball and bowling leagues for many years. She adored her Family and never missed anyone’s birthday, you could depend on your happy birthday call from her. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, concern for others, love for her family and sense of fashion. She would like to be remembered with funny and happy stories about the good and blessed things in her life. Not to mention Dora, who will walk into a room wearing a mink fur coat and elegant fashion from head to toe, dressed as if she is ready for fashion week, with the brightest warm smile and aura. Dora was beautiful, hilarious, judgment free, as well as loving. Heaven has gained a lovely Angel, but we’ve gained a beautiful, graceful butterfly who will guide us to the bright side of life today, tomorrow and forever. She leaves fond memories to share, son James Thomas Grier, Jr. of New Haven, CT, bonus son Jeffrey Brazier, Sr. of New Haven, CT, sisters Theopia Spencer of New Haven, CT, Evelyn Lance of Hamden, CT and Cynthia Morant of Georgetown, SC, brothers Charles (Irene) Lance of West Palm Beach, FL, James Lance of New Haven, CT, Riggins Lance (Michelle) of Charlotte, NC, her grandchildren: Quanisha Grier, Jaron Grier, James T. Grier,III, Jermaine Harris, Semaj Grier, India Kellman, Nevaeh Kellman, Sahnia Grier and Asante Kellman all of New Haven, CT, two great-grandchildren: Penelope Parker and Jameson Grier, four sisters-in-law Dorothy Grier (Charlie), Azalea Keith, Santa Faye Grier and Hiawatha Grier, two brothers-in-law Woodrow (Betty) Grier, Henry Grier and forever brother-in law Clarence Milton(CJ), her lifetime friends Alberta Simmons, Betty Grier and Blondell Bromell amongst others and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Dora was predeceased by her husband James Thomas Grier, Sr., daughter Sharon Ann Grier, her parents, Samuel and Wilhemina Murray Lance, sister Pearlena Lance Milton, brothers Samuel Lance, Jr., William Lance (Willie Mae), Jack Lance, nephews Tommy Lance, Sean Edwards, Jr., brother-in-law and sister-in-law Woodrow & Dorothy Grier
