Charles Williams

Charles James Williams entered eternal rest on February 27, 2025, at the age of 67 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a long illness. He was born on March 26, 1957, to the late James and Wilhelmena Holmes Williams. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Ida and Charlie Williams; maternal grandparents, Lou Jane Dozier Holmes and Johnny Holmes; son Kevin Wright; sister Constance Williams; sisters-in-law, Daisy Clarke and Christine Harington; and three brothers-in-law, Herbert, Harold and Willard Harrington. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Sandra Harrington-Williams; his siblings: Carolyn (Johnny) Holmes-Cumbee of Salters, SC, Jacquelyn W. Mayo of Newnan, GA, Alice Faye Harrell of Los Angeles, CA, Cathy W. (James) Benjamin of Hamden, CT, Johnny James Williams of New Haven, CT, John (Charlene) Williams of Richmond, VA, Simon (Ana) Williams of Shelton, CT, Vera (Brent) Stevenson of New Haven, CT, Francena Williams of New Haven, CT, Joesph (Cheryl) Williams of New Haven, CT, and Micheal (Jamone) Williams of Huntsville, AL; in-laws: Lillian Flowers (Ralph Cook), Geraldine, Kent (Linda), and Stephene Harrington of New Haven, CT; his children: Emerson, Tywanna, Teneshia, Robbie and Raymond Holland of New Haven, CT. He also leaves to mourn 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; godchildren: Tyshena Williams, JaeLynn Sutherland and Barnetta Harrington; special aunts, Azalee Fulton, Thelma Gamble, Myoner Holmes, Margaret Roseborough and Katie Coston. He leaves many, many friends, family members and a host of nieces and nephews whose lives he touched in special ways. CJ was the type of person that if he saw a need, he did his best to meet it. He was there for every occasion no matter what the travel entailed. He was seen as a father figure, mentor, guide and pinnacle protector. He loved his church (Joy Temple) and his church family with all his heart. He was always happy and smiling, humming one of his favorite spiritual songs, such as “I won’t complain.” Family and friends can attest to this. He was fighting an illness and did not tell us, but God said, “his suffering was over and done.” CJ was the co-owner of C&H Construction Company in Waterbury. He attended CE Murray High School where he was known as “The Hawk” for his basketball skills. He completed high school at Wilbur Cross High School and later attended Southern CT State University. He was affectionately known as “I-95 South” and never missed an event. Regardless of whether it meant driving to South Carolina or Georgia, he was always present. He had a deep affection for South Carolina and his family. One of his favorite pastimes was dressing up. Dubbed “Mr. GQ,” he often competed with his nephews for the title of the best-dressed. He worked tirelessly, enjoyed dancing, and had a sweet tooth. His favorite dishes included stewed chicken, pot roast, chicken with peppers, sweet potato pie, and various cakes. As Mr. GQ, he was always impeccably dressed, complete with a matching hat. We will forever love and miss him for the love and protection he provided. His selfless love meant he kept his struggles to himself. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin who will be deeply missed.
