Carlete Marie Denby-Garvin

Carlete (Lova) Marie Denby-Garvin, of New Haven, CT, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving children, family, and friends as she entered eternal rest. Carlete was born on May 27, 1960, in New Haven, CT, to her parents, the late Reid Denby and Geraldine Brown Denby. She was a proud graduate of Lee High School and dedicated her career to healthcare, working as a compassionate caregiver until her retirement. Carlete was a devoted mother, sister, and friend, known for her unwavering loyalty, dignity, and honor. Love was her second nature, and she embodied it wholeheartedly. She truly earned the nickname "Lova," carrying it gracefully and sincerely throughout her life. Carlete leaves behind a lasting legacy through her beloved family, including her nine cherished children: Nina Denby of New Haven, CT, William Denby of Meriden, CT, Shardeena Deby of Hamden, CT, John Denby of New Haven, CT, Willesha Garvin of New Haven, CT, Sundiata Garvin of Hamden, CT, Oshkosh Garvin of New Haven, CT, Willie Garvin Jr. of New Haven, CT, and Walnaesha Teabout of New Haven, CT. She was also blessed with 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is survived by her beloved brothers Sundiata Keitazulu (Stephanie), Paul Denby, and Phillip Denby; her loving aunts Lula Woodson and Martha Conyers; and her uncle Ronald Brown. She shared a special bond with her godchildren L'Tanya Brooks-Draughn, Shakima Carlet Keitazulu, Malinda Draughn and Brandon Roach, her bonus daughter Courtney Robinson, godsister Madeline Dennis and her godbrother Marcus Harvin. A Devoted Cousin Troy Maceo Streater whom she loved like a brother. Carlete was preceded in death by her parents, Reid and Geraldine Deby, and her maternal grandparents, Robert and Nancy Brown. She was also predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Stephen and Molly Denby; her brothers Jimmy Lee Brown and Stephen Denby; her sister Jaqueline Deby Simpson; her aunts Mattie Belle, Mary Galloway, Helen Durham, Pearline Moore, Dorothy McNeil and Mamie Ruth Coleman; her uncles David and Donald Brown; her niece Niya Maynard; her nephew Deshawn Maysonet; her godson Travis Marzie Mitchell and her goddaughter Jajuana Cole. Carlete will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. One of Carlete's deepest and most cherished friendships was with her and most cherished friendships was with her brother, Sundiata (Shaka Zulu). The love they shared as siblings was truly unparalleled. Their bond was unbreakable, and his heartbreak at her passing is a testament to the love they shared. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will miss her dearly.
