Bertha Mae Barker

Mrs. Bertha Mae Barker was summoned into Eternal rest by Almighty God, on May 13, 2019 from Genesis Arden House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hamden, CT where she visited for a short period of time. On November 4, 1936, she was born in Wallace, North Carolina to loving parents: Mae Robinson and Berk Sanders, both deceased. After graduating high school, she moved to New Haven, CT where she married Donald Barker (deceased). Bertha was an extremely talented and beautiful woman. She worked in Household Management for the majority of her life and was employed in various other positions. As lead singer in a musical group called The Soul Sisters she recorded several songs. With her vocal gift from God, she sang many praises unto Him. She enjoyed singing, cooking and fashion. She was a fashion diva and was given the title of Miss Fair Haven in her youth due to her unique and exquisite one-of-a-kind styles. Bertha Mae, as she was known, was the living responsible soul of 5 generations. She loved and enjoyed her family and loved the Lord. For 20 years she was a faithful member of the New Life Ministries of Hamden, CT where she was proud to be honored and entrusted as Mother of the Church. Leaving to cherish her memory are her 4 devoted and loving children: Diane Barker of Miami, FL, Donald Barker Jr. II, of New Haven, CT, Theresa Faison, of New Haven, CT and Bonnie Faison of New Haven, CT; 1 daughter in law: Theresa Lawson-Barker; 12 grandchildren: Marquis Faison, Ebonese Bennerman, Alexander Clark, Kimberly Stevenson, Donald Barker, Jr. III, Bryan Barker, LaShawna Faison, Shante Faison, Brandon Faison, Brittany Faison, Bree Faison and Terrance Stevenson; 16 great grandchildren: Keunte Hampton, Alexandria Clark, Kayron Clark, Skylar Clark, Alexander Clark II, Marcel Faison, Terrance Stevenson II, TyQuan Hannans, TyShawn Hannans, Jewels Melendez, Nyro Lockhart, Marquis Faison II, Shaquille Daniels, T’Naja Thompson, Brycyn Thompson, and Nevaeh Faison; 9 great great grandchildren: Josiah Faison, Messiah Faison, Ca’Ron Hannans, TyQuan Hannans, Jr., LeQuan Hannans, Mia Hannans, and Myla Hannans, Timothy Bell, Jr., and Denim Stevenson. Mrs. Barker also leaves to cherish memory, her 9 nieces: Denise Bryant, Cynthia Howie, Elaine Bryant, Sybrina Kay, Dorinda Bryant, Allison Joshua, Vanessa Spell, Lavonda Bryant and Bertha Bowser (deceased); 3 nephews: Marvin Bryant, James Bryant and Keith Bryant; 6 great nephews: Dwayne Bryant, Frank Dawson II, Charles Murray, Mark Grant, Jonathan Murray and Avery Bryant, 7 great nieces: Candice Bryant, Sania Hardy, Tempest Nesbitt, Ashleigh Bryant; Samantha Eady, Gabriele Bryant and Kinya Murray; 11 great great nieces: Serenity Bennett, Dynasia Bryant, Destiny Bryant, Jada Bryant, Da’onna Bryant, Chelsea Murray, Caitlyn Bryant, Madison Bryant, Julia Bryant, Tage and Tyla Nesbitt, 9 great great nephews: Exquisite Bennett, Adonis Bennett, Honesty Bennett, Marquest Grant, Israel Grant,, Frank Dawson III, Malik Dawson, Caleb Murray, and Justice Eady; 1 great great great nephew: Frank Dawson IV; 3 1st cousins: Liston, Debra and Anthony Filyaw; she is also survived by a sister, Eva Clowers of North Carolina; a sister in law Marion Bryant; a very special and devoted nephew in law Adolph “Eddie” Hardy. In addition to an extensive host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by 2 brothers: Norwood Bryant, William C. Bryant and his wife Gladys Bryant; Aunt and Uncle: Maceo and Kathryn Filyaw, and Uncles William D. Bryant, Fred Bryant and Carson Bryant, 2 nephews: Norwood and Alphonso Bryant. She was intensely loved for her kind spirit, soft spoken voice and ever loving and giving heart.
