Bennie Robinson

Bennie Robinson was born on November 22, 1938 in Montgomery, Alabama. He was the sixth of nine children born to the late Alex and Johnnie Mae Robinson. 7 of his siblings and their spouses, Andrew Robinson (Artilla), Julia Mae Robinson, Melvin Robinson, Lucille Rogers (James), Isaac Robinson (Mary), Susie Robinson, and Edward Robinson (Bernadette), all preceded him in death. Bennie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. W.W. Warren. Bennie graduated from McClurkin Elementary School in Pike Road, Alabama and Georgia Washington High School in Mount Meigs, Alabama. Bennie was a superb basketball player, nicknamed ‘Cheyenne”, who led Georgia Washington’s basketball team, the Wildcats, to win several championships. Bennie worked for several years at City Water Works in Montgomery, Alabama. He married Rosie Sanders and that union was blessed with 3 children: Belinda, Debra, and Bennie Leon. He later married Minnie Robinson and moved to New Haven, Connecticut. Bennie and Minnie were blessed with 5 children: Maryland, Michael, Sheila, Alfreda, and Sherell. Bennie was employed by Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut for several decades until he retired. Bennie had a gift for fixing things, which led him to start his own business of fixing lawnmowers and snowblowers. Never leaving his Alabama roots far behind, Bennie loved gardening and he would often plant several vegetables in his backyard until his health failed. Bennie was a quiet man, but that infectious smile would shine when he was with his family, and especially so when he was with his younger sister, Sadie. He always tried to make sure she was extra comfortable when she came to visit him and they enjoyed seeing and reminiscing with each other. Bennie leaves several people who loved him and will cherish his memory. He will forever remain in the hearts of his loving wife, Minnie Robinson; Children: Belinda Robinson Jones, Debra Spencer (Charles), Bennie Leon Robinson, Maryland Taylor (Doug), Michael Robinson (Nina), Sheila Wilson (Robert), Alfreda Robinson, and Sherell Robinson; Grandchildren: Jermaine Robinson, Roxanne Jones, Rosie Jones, Leon Jones, Kiki Ohara, Tiesha Robinson, Quida Robinson, Doug Taylor Jr (Lanesha), Sherita Taylor, Raven Wilson, Ravel Wilson; Great-grandchildren: Jermaine Robinson Jr., Jayla Robinson, Ezra Jones, Jamarion Miles, Jacaron Miles, Tynika Miles, King Miles, Kayla Robinson, Kamari Robinson, Kendrick Smith Jr, Douglas DJ Taylor, Dawson Taylor, his loving sister: Sadie Johnson (Wade) , and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
