Thelma Lee Wright was born on January 1, 1929, to James and Viola Perkins in Hartsville, South Carolina. She had humble beginnings, leaving primary school early to work and take care of her 4 siblings. She married the late Carl Milton Wright Sr. and had six beautiful children, Dora Lee Perkins, Angelene (David) Holmes, Carletta (Howard) Sipes, Alma B. (Furman) Langley, James E. (Denise) Wright Sr., and Carl M. Wright Jr. Together they raised their daughters in the South and then migrated to New Haven, CT where their sons were born. She is survived by 1 sister, Mildred Simpkins, 5 of her children, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family, daytime soaps, and a good trip to the casino. She will always be remembered for the love and wisdom she imparted throughout her years. To know her is to truly love her; there are many extended family members and friends who can attest to the magnitude of her welcoming and warm spirit. Thelma had a servant’s heart and was an active member of St. Martin’s de Porres Church. She passed away on June 29th, at St. Raphael’s Hospital. In addition to her parents, Thelma is predeceased by her husband, one daughter, Dora Lee Perkins, two brothers, Nathaniel and Sylvester Perkins, and one sister Rosa Lee Brown.
