Norvell Martin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On January 3rd, 2020, Mr. Norvell D. Martin, 68, of 4224 Town Walk Drive passed away in peace in Branford, Connecticut. His greatness originated in Winston-Salem, NC and took his southern roots up north to New Haven, CT with his mother Luize Jackson. While becoming one of James Hillhouse High School’s greatest athletes, he was employed at Stop & Shop warehouse. His hardwork and resilience led to his retirement after 30 years of service. His service guided him to not only being a member of Living Word Ministries (currently Vertical Church) but also being the head basketball coach for Living Word Christian Academy winning back-to-back conference championships during his tenure. Through his illness, his spirit continued to overflow as he donated to the V Foundation for Cancer Research and helping youth athletes at many basketball camps and functions. He leaves his profound legacy with his daughter Ronda Martin, his two sons Norvell N. Martin and Donnell Martin (New Haven, CT), his one sister Nancy Jordan, his aunts Louise Jackson Smith McFadden (Orlando, Florida) and Delois Jackson Britton (Winston-Salem, NC), two grandchildren Mia Martin (New Haven, CT) and Naima Jahed (New Haven, CT), and a tribe of other relatives and friends. He's predeceased by his mother Luize Jackson (New Haven, CT), father Avell Martin (Winston-Salem, NC), his daughter Chakan Martin (New Haven, CT), his sister Mary Elizabeth Martin “Doll Baby” (Winston-Salem, NC), his brother Fred Jackson “Billy” (New Haven, CT), his uncles Harvey Lee Jackson, George Jackson and James Jackson (Winston-Salem, NC), his aunts Lorena Jackson and Ulena Ann Jackson Reaves (Winston-Salem, NC), and his grandparents Nancy Mabery-Jackson and James Jackson (Winston-Salem, NC).
