Martha Sumter

December 10, 1938 - February 17, 2022

Evangelist Martha Jones Sumter was one of 13 children born to the late Martha and Johnny Jones on December 10th, 1938. She departed this life on February 17th, 2022. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Henry Jones, Oscar Jones, Willie Jones, Jimmy Jones, Jessie Jones, Joe Jones, Robert Jones, Ned Jones and sisters Nina Darden, Hattie Bell Jones, Ethel May Darden, Marie Jones and one grandson Jessie W. Barnes. She attended Green County Public schools. She later moved to New Haven, CT where she was employed at Yale New Haven Hospital for 50 years. She attended Sweet Hope Church where she was the choir president and director. She was also an Associate Ministers. She leaves to cherish; her devoted son who loved her dearly, Bishop Jessie Jones (Co-Pastor Carolyn Jones) of Greenville, NC, one daughter Etta Jones of New Haven, CT; 6 grandchildren, Kimberly Jones, Jessica Jones, and Kiana Flemming of Greenville, NC, Ronda Barnes of Raleigh, NC, Torah Jones and Shalonda Jones of New Haven, CT; 5 great grandchildren, 2 great-great Grandchildren; a special niece Thelma Marie Parker and a host of special nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
