Kiana R. Brown-Burgess

Kiana R. Brown-Burgess departed this mortal life June 17th, 2020. She was born July 31st, 2000 in New Haven, Connecticut to Kevin Burgess and Karen Brown. Kiana attended New Haven Public Schools and later received her diploma from Hillhouse High School in 2018. Kiana found her love for basketball at an early age watching her older brother Kashon and older cousin Courtney play. She would later join the AAU basketball league and the Biddy Basketball League at the Farnam Neighborhood House. Kiana’s love for ball landed her a spot on the Hillhouse Girls' basketball Team all four years of high school wearing the number four. Her passion for her team’s success was shown through her many huddle talks and her ‘hype man’ personality. Her positive energy, her smile and her sportsmanship were unmatched. She loved the team and would go often to support her lady academics in the stands post-graduation. After high school, Ms. Brown was navigating her next steps in life. She started working at Crackle Barrel where she quickly gained the love of all her co-workers and managers. She recently received the Most Valuable Team Player award. She worked hard and she loved even harder. Her love for her family and friends beamed off her during family events. She was quite the character, being able to mimic and re-enact stories that had the family in tears. She was the comedian, her vibrant and tell you like it is attitude was what her family and friends looked forward too. Kiana is survived by her parents, Karen Brown and Kevin Burgess (Delana). Paternal great grandmothers, Ann ‘Nana’ Burgess and Roberta Greene Boyette. Grandmother, Debra Ruffin (Harold). Her brothers: Kashon Brown and Kevin Burgess Jr.; Great Aunts: Delphine Burgess and Helen Burgess. Aunts: Sharon Brown, Barbra Dupree, Charlene Minder, Necole Greene, Yolanda Greene, Michelle Greene Barham, Jackie Greene and Dawn Boyette Langley. Godmother, Dana Martin. Godfather, Alfonza Burgess Jr. Great Uncle, Bishop David Burgess. Uncles: Kenneth M. Brown Sr. (Sherri), Eric Brown (Bernice), Anthony Brown, David ‘DeeDee’ Flewellen, Pastor D’Hati Burgess Sr. (Geneva) and Quincey Greene. Special sister and cousin, Courtney Brown. Along with a host of cousins who loved and adored her dearly. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Maggie Staggers and Luther Staggers. Aunt, Theresa Bowen. Maternal Cousins, Colleen R. Brown and Kenneth M. Brown Jr. Paternal great grandparents, Stanley Greene and Robert Burgess Jr. Paternal grandfather, Kevin Greene. Aunt, Cheryl Greene. Kiana was loved beyond measure.
