Joseph Alexander Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joseph C. Alexander, 51, of West Haven, CT untimely departed from his earthly home and was called into his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Joseph was born to the late Brenda and Roy Green on March 6, 1970 in Brooklyn, New York. The family relocated to New Haven, CT when he was 9 years old. During his travel of life, Joseph received his 2nd mother, Mary “Honeyma” Ogman. Rockview Circle was his home base stomping ground (could not tell him anything about Rockview). Joseph earned his names “Big Joe” or “Black” from his Rockview family. The hardest and toughest times Joseph endured living out Rockview was the loss of his younger brother Benji Alexander and older brother Ronald “Duke” Ogman. To help him cope and to get through those tough times was his best friend and the mother of his 3 children, Monique Gallishaw. Joseph received his education at Clarence Rogers, Katherine Brennan, and he then furthered his education at Job Corp in Maine. Joseph used his height and weight to the best of his ability. He was a bouncer / security guard for the past 15 years at the local bars and clubs. Joseph was a gentle giant who enjoyed wrestling “Stone Cold,” loved to suck his thumb, eating, dancing, being the jokester of the family, but most importantly, Joseph loved his family. Joseph is survived by his second mother, Mary “Honeyma” Ogman; 2 sons, Joseph “Frankie” Gallishaw and Benji “Mont Mont” Alexander; 1 daughter, Charisse “Reesecup” Alexander; 7 grandkids, Tiara-Ali, Alaysia, Blessings, Khalise, Janiyah, Zuri and Josiah all of New Haven; 7 brothers, Tushea Ogman of Chicago, Steven, Gregory, Joseph, Marvin, Robert and Jack of New Haven; 4 sisters, Rosemary, Robin, Sharon and Angel “Yummy” Ogman of New Haven; 1 aunt, Mary Jefferson of Thomasville, GA; 2 special cousins, Carolyn Stewart of FL and Maurice Carter of MD; 1 god-brother, Jesse Benefield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Brenda Green; 3 brothers, Ronald and Don Ogman and Benji Alexander; 1 nephew, Shamar Ogman; 2 uncles, Carey Alexander and Willie Carter; and 1 great-niece, Sharmaya Ogman. To have known him was to only love him. Heaven couldn’t wait for you. Take your rest because God only takes the best. We love you.
