CELEBRATION OF LIFE For MR. JAMES THOMAS DIXON “For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:6-7 Mr. James Thomas Dixon, Sr., the last surviving descendent of the late Frank and Carrie German Dixon. He was born May 5, 1940, and quietly answered the Master’s call on the evening of May 11, 2020. Mr. Dixon was reared in Farmville, NC and received his formal education in the Public Schools of Pitt County. He worked on the farm there where his parents were share croppers. He later moved north for a better life, eventually settling in New Haven, Connecticut where he worked as a machinist until he retired. He met the love of his life, Doris Gorham Dixon (deceased) as a teenager in High School. They were married and had two children, Carolyn Dixon McDonald (Darrell) and a son James Thomas Dixon, Jr. (deceased). Mr. James Thomas Dixon, Sr. will be remembered as a fun, yet straight forward person. He loved his family deeply, and is remembered by his daughter Carolyn as a deep thinker who instilled in her the importance of working and always doing things to the best of her ability. Preceding him in death were his parents Frank and Carrie German Dixon; brothers, Morris Vernice (Pig) and Douglas (Doug), wife, Doris Gorham Dixon; and son, James Thomas Dixon, Jr. Those left to cherish wonderful memories are: his daughter, Carolyn Dixon McDonald (Darrell) of Greensboro, NC and granddaughter, Erika Nichole Richmond of Durham, NC as well as a host of nieces, cousins and other relatives, The Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday, May 23, 2020. Professional Services Entrusted to: McClam Funeral Services New Haven, Connecticut MY GRANDPA My name is Erika Richmond, and my Grandpa, James Thomas Dixon was a very special person to me. As a child, I often visited him and my grandmother (who preceded him in death) in Connecticut. I carry very fond memories of those visits with me even today. I had the opportunity to visit my grandparents shortly before my beloved grandmother passed and my grandfather paid me the highest compliment that I ever received in my life by telling me that I just like my mother. Anyone who knows her knows how huge that is. My grandfather showed his family that he loved them in the best way that he could. I once drove the most dangerous car in the world. My grandfather gave me $5,000 cash, and that was the most money that I had ever seen at one time. This money was to go towards the down payment on a new car. He instructed me to get a reliable car that I would need to make payments on. That gift not only allowed me to get a better car, but it also taught me valuable lessons in financial responsibility and the importance of building good credit. I was blessed to have my grandfather for thirty-three years. I was also blessed to talk to him right before he passed. He did not get to ask me the question that he always used to ask me. “No grandpa, I still haven’t found a husband.” Thank you for listening to me talk a little about my grandpa. Even though he and my grandma are no longer with us, they are no longer sick and in pain. I love and miss them both.
