Geraldine Denby

May 23, 1936 - January 12, 2022

Geraldine (Figgy) Brown Denby of the late Robert L Brown and Nancy Jane Mooring Brown was born May 23, 1936, in Greenville, Pitt County, North Carolina. She entered eternal rest on January 12, 2022, quietly in her home. She migrated from Greenville, NC at a very early age. She attended the New Haven public school system. She married her late husband Reid Denby to this union seven children were born. She joined Pitts Chapel Freewill Baptist Church under the leadership, of Bishop Lonnie Gorham. She was employed at Malleable Iron, Veteran Administration Hospital, the US Repeating Arms, and Pratt Whitney for many years before retiring. Geraldine was known by many names including Figgy, Gerry, Figalig Aunt Sexy, and Auntie Blondie. She enjoyed vacationing, cooking her signature chop barbecue and cornbread, and loved hosting many family cookouts. She loved her family especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn three sons Sundiata (Stephanie) Keitazulu of New Haven, CT, Paul and Phillip Denby Of Hamden, CT. Two daughters Carlet Denby Garvin and Jacqueline Denby of Hamden, CT, 51 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her Brother Ronald Brown of Hamden and three sisters Lula Woodson and Martha Conyers of New Haven and Mamie Ruth Coleman of Baltimore, MD. A very special loving nephew Maceo Troy Streater. Very attentive nieces Vanessa Moore and Alice Woodson, and two Godsons Johnathon Stewart and Marcus Harvin. She was preceded in death by parents Robert L Brown and Nancy Jane Mooring Brown. Husband Reid Denby, Sons Jimmy L Brown, Reid Stephen Denby. Granddaughter Niya Maynard, Brothers David and Donald Brown, Sisters Mattie Belle, Helen Durham, Pearline Moore, Mary Galloway, and Dorothy McNeil. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will miss her dearly. Whitneyville Cultural Commons 1253 Whitney Ave, Hamden 06517 1pm-6pm. If you are unable to attend the Repast, we will be providing meals at Pitts Chapel that you can enjoy at home directly after the burial.
