Edna Dubose-Mabery

April 16, 1942 - February 9, 2022

Edna Yvonne Dubose-Mabery, affectionately known as “Big Mama,” was born on April 16, 1942 in Dunn, North Carolina to the late James and Cora Lee Thompson. Edna departed this life on February 9, 2022 and entered into heaven her eternal home. Edna grew up in New Haven, Connecticut and she attended New Haven Public Schools. Edna was employed many years as a private duty caretaker for the elderly which she truly enjoyed. Edna loved attending church and was very active until her health started to fail. Back in the day, Edna was also a member of the Eastern Stars. Edna demonstrated her love by sharing her home and food with family and friends. She was a fashionista and loved to dress in beautiful clothing and her jewelry. She had a cheerful laughter which was felt by all whom she came into contact with whether it was a stranger or acquaintance. A few of her favorite sayings were, “You old bitty” and “Jesus loves you and so do I.” Edna leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Patricia Artizibal; daughters-in-love, Delores Battle-Carter and Linda Keith; one grandson, Arturo Artizibal; 2 great-grandchildren, Crystal and Valeria Artizibal of New York; 2 great great-grandsons, Mikal and Ashton Aritizbal of Texas; a brother, Charles Thompson of California; 2 sisters, Carolyn Thompson of New Haven, CT and Camera Quuebec (AKA Patricia Thompson-Little) of Cheshire, CT; her favorite cousin, Charles Grady; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members both near and far. Edna was predeceased by her 1st husband, Edward Dubose and 2nd husband, Sam Mabery; 3 sons, Glen and Eddie Dubose and Babyboy Dubose; 4 brothers, Anthony, John Davis, John Thompson and James Thompson Jr.; granddaughter, Valeria Artizibal; and her favorite aunt, Helen Hinton of New York. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Leeway, Inc., 40 Albert St., New Haven CT 06511, 203-865-0068.
