Dovell McFadden Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dovell Leroy McFAdden, 66, of New Haven, CT passed away at home on Monday, October 11, 2021. He was the son of the late Nancy McFadden and Dovell Dickey. He was born on February 17, 1955 in Kingstree, South Carolina. Dovell, fondly known as “Larry,” was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He also worked for the City of Bridgeport as an Equity Grant Assistant. Dovell was a devoted member of New Beginning Apostolic Church with Suffragan Bishop Richard Brooks, Clergies and other members. He loved to sing and was in the church choir for years. His favorite songs were “God Has Smiled on Me.” “Lord, Help Me to Hold Out” and “I Don’t Feel No Ways Tired.” Most of the time, you could find him cooking and baking for his family and friends where he was famously known for his delicious “jelly cake.” On a sunny day, you could find him at one of his favorite fishing spots, simply enjoying the day. Dovell also loved his family, children and grandchildren very much and would share their accomplishments with everyone. His love and devotion for his family were shown in many ways but the one thing that brought him the most joy was sitting and talking with family and friends and making them laugh. You always felt better because he would share his wonderful stories, exhortations and words of encouragement. Dovell always saw the good in others no matter the situation. He never complained and always had a smile for anyone he encountered. We will miss him dearly. He leaves to cherish his memories, sons, Lawrence McFadden and Taveras (Equalla) Gray; daughter, Jasmine McFadden; two brothers, Clenison Dickey and Dozier (Tyree) Dickey; eight sisters, Christine Miller, Azilee Harris, Carol (Ernest) Lee, Linda (Dennis) Saucier, Irene Dickey, Brenda Dickey, Estelle Dickey and Budicisa Dickey; a god-daughter, Lakeiya Miller; 10 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Nancy McFadden; father, Dovell Dickey; and brothers, Charles “Hank” McFadden and Charles Adam Dickey.
