Bishop Roosevelt Mitchell

Bishop Roosevelt Mitchell went home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2022, in McDonough, GA at the age of 90 years old. Roosevelt Mitchell was born on March 7, 1932, in Macon County, Alabama, to Moses Mitchell and Charlotte James. His Godparents were Charlie & Lillie Messer, as well as Vonceile Williams. Bishop is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lizzie Mae Erkard Mitchell. Bishop was the father of Cathy (David) Kindrick of Montgomery, AL, Patrick (Cyrece) Mitchell of New Haven, CT, Frank (Susan) Mitchell of Hamden, CT, and Niesha Morrison of Hamden, CT, siblings Dorothy Watson (Mt. Morris, MI), Lori Bailey (Las Vegas, NV), Tommie Williams (Montgomery, Al), Emma “Louise” Hazzard (Montclair, NJ), 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives. Roosevelt was a dedicated worker for many years at Alaga Syrup Factory in Alabama. Roosevelt was shown to be such a hard-working young man, that the President of the company asked if he would work for him as his personal assistant. Roosevelt married his long-time sweetheart, Lizzie Mae Erkard, on December 25, 1951. In 1965, Roosevelt and his wife moved to Connecticut where he became employed at Winchester Firearms as Lead man for 10 years. After leaving Winchester, Roosevelt continued his career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft where he worked for 19 years until retirement. In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband and father, Bishop Roosevelt was a pilar in the community. He enjoyed helping people weather it was providing rides to those who wanted to attend church to worship or delivering food to those less fortunate from the Food Bank, whatever the need he was ready to serve. Bishop Roosevelt started his own landscaping business which he enjoyed and nurtured his desire for gardening. Bishop Roosevelt loved gardening and completing jigsaw puzzles. Bishop was also known for his Cream Cheese pound cake, which melted in your mouth. At an early age, Roosevelt was a member of St Paul church in Cecil, AL where he became an ordained deacon. When Roosevelt moved to CT in 1965, he joined Pitts Chapel Unified Free Will Church in New Haven, CT. Roosevelt gave his heart to the Lord in 1970, was ordained a deacon and was an active member of the Usher Board. Roosevelt preached his initial sermon in 1975 at Pitts Chapel. In 1987, Bishop started his own church, called Sweet Deliverance Church. Later, Bishop joined Christian Love Center Church under the leadership of Overseer Willie Mae Clayton. Roosevelt was ordained a Bishop and remained so humble, that he continued to be an active member of the Usher Board. In 2005, Bishop and his wife moved to McDonough, GA, where he worship at Faith Deliverance Temple in Stockbridge, GA and then Tabernacle of Praise in McDonough, GA. Bishop was predeceased by his parents, Godparents, siblings Leroy Mitchell, Louise Lee, Josie Peterson, Vietta James (Cecil, Al), Olivetta Evans (Bellamy, AL), Edmond Davis (Columbus, Ga), Alonza Davis (Columbus, Ga), Clifford Simmons (Northeast Maryland), and Titus Blanks (Montgomery, Al) Bishop was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family, church, and community. Services will be live-streamed through Facebook, the page to find the service will be “MFH Livestreaming” about 5 minutes before service time.
