William Speight Sr.

THE MAN. THE LEGACY, THE MEMORY William McKinley Speight (Hall) was born on September 5th, 1938 in Pitt County, North Carolina to William M. Hall, Sr & Ms. Bessie Speight. He was a diehard sports lover. If you knew William, you knew not to speak against the Boston Celtics and The Washington Redskins. Being the king of his castle, it did not matter who was watching Tv or what was being watched on tv, he was going to change the channel; whether to sports, Judge Judy, Judge Mathis or Family Feud with Steve Harvey which he enjoyed watching with his family. He was employed w/ Pratt & Whitney for 37 years. After completing his employment tenure there, he happily retired and spent the rest of his life enjoying quality time with his family and friends doing all of the things that made him happy and comfortable. Going back down memory lane, it was in the 7th grade where William couldn't seem to keep his eyes off of this cute, young light skinned beauty named Ethel Murphy. He messed with her all the time. The story goes that one day while sitting behind her in class, he began playing in her hair and she didn't like it but he continued to do so until she turned around and stabbed him in the hand. Who would've known that years later on May 19th, 1958 that they would be joined in holy matrimony that would last 64 years. In 2004, after 40 years of praying and believing God, William gave his life over to the Lord at a funeral and from that day he never looked back and served God faithfully until his passing. He joined God's Miracles Unlimited Outreach Ministries under the tutelage of Bishop Howard & Pastor Peggy Joyner. It was here that he was baptized in Jesus Name and filled with the gift of Holyghost. He served and attended faithfully being active in the Men's Ministry, serving on the Trustee Board, traveling with the Men's Missionary Team, and being apart of The MLK Men's Brunch Committee, serving as an Usher with his buddies Deacon Walt and Deacon Mason and his greatest joy and appointment as an Ordained Deacon. He never did join the male chorus but he was certainly a "Solo Artist" in his truck (LOL) He leaves to cherish his amazing legacy, his loving wife of 64 years, Mother Ethel Speight, 1 Sister; Annie Catherine "Aunt Sister". 7 Children: Annette Harris (Kelvin), Pamela Donegan, LaTonya Lamay, Terra Leak (Sean). Lisa Caldwell, William Speight, III (Karen) Larry Speight and if you knew William, you knew he said that Pastor Torrin Leak was his son! Affectionately known as "Pop", he also leaves 17 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grands and 4 special extended Grands that he and Mother Speight love dearly; John Allen & Jordan Brown, Anthony Leggette & NasZier Torrence Robinson. A host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and you all our family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers; Louis & George Shamble and 1 son.
