Verdell Langford

On December 31, 2020 Verdell Langford transitioned from this life into the presence of the Lord. Verdell was a beautiful woman full of life and joy, she had a fun-loving personality that was unforgettable and a rich characterization. To say that she was a classy sassy lady is an understatement… “She was one of a kind’. She was a natural communicator who never missed an opportunity to make someone smile. If you ever met her, you would never forget her and if became your friend, then you had a friend for life. She embraced life to the fullest and her presence will be deeply missed. Born January 14, 1948 in Tuskegee, Alabama she was the daughter of the late Annie Rich Boyd-Langford and Jeffie Lee Langford. In 1952 her parents relocated to New Haven, CT where she was raised and attended New Haven public school system Troup middle school and Hillhouse high class of 1966. She was a student at South Central Community college. Verdell was employed at SNET where she retired after over 20 years of dedicated service. After an early retirement from SNET she was hired at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company where she retired after 12 years of dedicated service. After retiring from Bristol-Myers, she went on to volunteer at various New Haven and Hamden schools as a volunteer grandmother. She also, became an entrepreneur and launch her own jewelry business with her daughter’s help “VLang Jewels”. She was one of the original members of the Connecticut chapel Boyd family reunion. She was an extraordinary and passionate mother who loved all her family and friends unconditionally. Verdell enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren who affectionately called her “Gigi”. They would offer dine out at their favorite restaurant Greek Olive, shopping trips to the mall, movies and their favorite store five below. She Loved shopping, traveling, going to the casino, card playing, swing dancing, telling corny jokes, attending charity events, attending events with the Classy Sassy Sisters, having book discussions with the Buy the Book club Ladies, and the love of music especially down-home blues. Her favorite R&B artist was Glady Knight. She loved attending many Boyd family reunions. Verdell was a long-time active member of St. Paul’s Union American Church in New Haven, Connecticut where she was a dedicated member of the usher board. Years later she joined New Bethlehem UFBC here in New Haven, Connecticut where she actively helped build up the church ministry. Under the leadership of Pastor Elder Maria Gore.
