Tyrese Tremont Phillips Sr.

Tremont Phillips (Tree) Sr. Beloved Son, Dad, Brother, Granddad, Uncle, Cousin and Brother-in-law passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at his home in Hamden, CT. Tremont was born on March 19, 1972 in New Haven, CT to Sheila Phillips-Tyson and the late Stephen A. Morris. He attended public schools in New Haven and Hamden, CT and received his certification from Stratford Career Institute in VT. He previously worked for Cyrus Knits in Branford CT, Crossroads Inc. in New Haven CT as a Counselor’s Aide and Records Clerk, Columbus House Inc. /Davenport Recovery House in New Haven as a Residential Counselor, Salvation Army in Hartford CT as a Production Asst and Truck Driver and a few more. Tremont was the oldest nephew in the Phillips Family. As a youngster, he was spoiled by his Aunt Elma and Grandma Gladys. He had a great sense of humor and loved to entertain the family with his dance moves. Growing up he was mature beyond his years and always had a plan. He was truly a people person and always looked out for others. He was a gentle giant with a heart of gold. Tremont enjoyed having talks with his mother about life to gain knowledge about all things. That is how he learned about Jehovah God. He constantly prayed for wisdom and knowledge and would say, “I learned that from you, ma but all praise go to Jehovah.” He used God’s name “Jehovah” when he spoke of Him and each time he did so, his mom would smile because she knew he was listening during those talks. Tremont lovingly referred to his mom as his Queen. He loved and adored her and she loved him unconditionally. They had an unbreakable bond. They loved to listen to old school music and sing together. Tremont had great love for his family and especially his children and they adored him immensely. They were his inspiration. His daughter Onna and granddaughter Nevaeh would call him and they would spend hours on the phone together and he enjoyed it. He was a family man and family was everything to him. He loved them all and they loved him. Tremont was affectionately known to some as General Tree. That referenced the strength he had in his heart, mind and soul. He was a legend and all who knew him had great respect for the man that he was. He enjoyed traveling and met people wherever he went and kept in touch with them. He was known from coast to coast.As all may know by now, Red was his favorite color because it represents love, passion, confidence, and courageousness. These personality traits represent who Tree was. Tremont always said, “Give me a red flower when I’m gone.” He will truly be missed. In addition to his mom Sheila and Stepfather Fred Tyson, Sr., Tremont leaves to cherish his memories Brother: Steven Durham (Percenna) of West Haven CT, Sister: Erica Atkins (Laurence) of California, Children: Asia Phillips of Norwalk CT, Alexus Phillips Curtin (David) of Torrington CT, Jayvar Gray and Ta’Mya Thomas of New Haven CT, TreeVeon, TreVante, and Treeonna Phillips of McDonough GA, Denim Phillips of West Haven CT, Grandchildren: Kaiden Phillips, Nevaeh Phillips, Andre Curtin, A’Kasha Phillips, and Bella Phillips, his maternal Grandmother Gladys Phillips-Adams, a special nephew Tramaine Goforth and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and True friends. He was predeceased by his Dad, Stephen A. Morris and oldest son Tyrese Tremont Phillips Jr., Stepfather Bobby R. Durham, Maternal grandfather Charles Phillips Sr., Paternal grandmother Nettie Lee Morris, Aunt Winnie Phillips-Cue, Cousins LaRon Phillips, LaVias Phillips and several Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
