Tommie Coleman

Tommie Jane Coleman, born to Romiel and Joanna Derrico Edwards on October 3, 1927, in Ramer, Alabama, peacefully passed away at the age of 96. She was the beloved second child among nine siblings. Tommie Jane embraced her faith at an early age and remained a devoted member of her church and community throughout her life. Her educational journey began in the Ramer Public School System, grades 1-8. Afterward, she embarked on a journey of independence, working at a laundry in Montgomery, Alabama, until the age of 19. Tommie Jane's path led her to Birmingham, where she reunited with her elder brother Lee Van and eventually met her beloved husband, Quincy Coleman. On September 17, 1946, they exchanged vows in Birmingham, marking the beginning of a cherished union. Tommie Jane and Quincy were blessed with two children, Quincy Jr. and Brenda, whom they raised in Bessemer, Alabama, until Quincy's work took them to Gary, Indiana, in 1964. Despite Quincy's passing in 1984, Tommie Jane's resilience and determination never wavered. She pursued her education, earning her High School Equivalency and later becoming a certified nursing assistant, accomplishments that brought immense pride to her and her family. In 1986, Tommie Jane relocated to Connecticut to be closer to her immediate family, where she dedicated herself to caring for others as a CNA at Cromwell Crest Nursing Home until her retirement. Tommie Jane's life was marked by her unwavering strength, kindness, and dedication to her loved ones and her community. She was preceded in death by her brothers Lee Van and Joe, as well as her sister Velma. Tommie Jane leaves behind cherished memories for her loving son, Quincy Coleman Jr., Hartford, Connecticut, and daughter, Brenda Key ( John ), Cromwell, Connecticut: as well as her five adoring grandchildren: Quincy Coleman III, Ashton Coleman (Kellie ) , California, Jenai Coleman, Michigan, Matthew Coleman Key, Cromwell, Connecticut and Wilma Louise Key(Adrian Towery), Bronx, New York. Tommie Jane found immense joy in spending time with her family, particularly celebrating her birthday each year. One of her greatest pleasures was embarking on long trips with her family and grandchildren, with Disney World and family reunions in the South holding special places in her heart
