Thomas Galloway

Thomas Galloway passed away peacefully in his sleep May 2, 2020. Tom was born December 16, 1938 in Sumter, South Carolina. He was the first-born child to Samuel and Geneva Galloway. He was the oldest of 14 children. He began working at a very early age to help support his family and he was proud to have worked alongside his father. He met and married his childhood sweet heart, Lillian A Perry September 12, 1958. Early in their marriage, they left Sumter and moved to Durham, NC before finally settling in New Haven, Connecticut. They remained married for 58 years until her passing in June 2016. Tom was a hardworking man. He held many jobs throughout the course of his life, including Malleable Iron Fittings of Branford and Bernie’s Iron of Danbury. He spent many years working for Winkle Bus company. He maintained the buses at the bus yard and over the years he safely drove hundreds of children to school. He specifically enjoyed bringing them on field trips and excursions. He retired from Winkle in 2014. Tom had many hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, working in the yard, and fixing cars with his brothers and cousin. He loved playing cards and laughing with friends. He loved talking to and being around small children. He would throw his head back and laugh at the things they said. He loved collecting tools. He loved listening to blues music. He loved driving and always kept a nice vehicle. He also rode a motorcycle for many years. He was known to ride out and visit family and friends. Many people looked forward to his visits. He always enjoyed spending his time with friends, family and people he knew. Thom loved baseball. He played for the Falcons and then he and a friend started their own team, The New Haven Saints. They would travel playing ball with their orange and black uniforms. After he stopped playing, he would watch any and all games on tv wearing his Yankee cap. Thomas attended and was a member of Rock Tabernacle Ministries. He enjoyed attending the church services and Wednesday night Bible study. Thomas was a kind man who was good to people. He was always willing to help or lend a helping hand. He loved his family. He loved making life easier for others. He was well known and will be greatly missed by many. Thomas was predeceased by his wife Lillian and an infant son, his brothers Cornell, Samuel Jr., Willie, Oneal and his sister Delores. He is survived by his son Wattson Rountee (Kenya), Bothers -Earl Galloway (Shirley), Bobby Galloway(Colleen) and Frankie Galloway(Patricia), Sisters - Bertha Mae Calhoun, Annie Thorpe (David) , Lucille Mays, Lilly Sierra and Jessie McCall and Brother in Law William Perry (Martha), Sister in law Celestine Williams. And a host of many nieces, nephews, and grandkids. **** The family would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts, prayers and gestures.
