Theorene Redic

Theorene Redic went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 20,2020 Theorene, the loving daughter of the late Rev. William R. Redic and Udora Tidwell Redic, was born on June 20, 1930 in Prescott, Arkansas. After graduating from high school in Arkansas she relocated to CT. Back in her day, she was one of an elegant, statuesque, stylish group of women known as the Tall Dolls. Theorene worked hard her entire life. People used to tell her that they could set their watch by her every morning as she ran to Seamless Rubber Co. She was employed there until they closed. From there she worked a variety of jobs, some two at a time and eventually retired from Perri Sausage. Theorene's family was her everything, and as hard as she worked she still made sure that she had quality time with her children, with picnics at the Lighthouse, private Easter egg hunts at Edgewood Park or simple things like teaching them how to plant flowers in the backyard. Her love was unconditional. She was a proud mother who supported her children in all of their endeavors, bending over backwards to make sure they had what they needed, even after they grew up. She raised her granddaughter Tanisha and considered her more of a daughter than granddaughter. She attended every single one of her children's life events from school spelling bees and graduations to military inductions and send-offs, triumphant returns from war, retirements, etc. After having three children in the military she became very conversant in the jargon and would talk about MOS's and PCS's. She would send their favorite cakes when her children were overseas, for birthdays and Christmas. With her careful packaging, the cakes would be just as moist and delicious as if fresh out of the oven. Theorene was an avid gardener and every year grew a variety of vegetables which she would freeze and can for the winter. She'd also can fruit from her fruit trees and make jellies and juices. Family and friends would always request canned peaches, pears, pickles and jelly. The flowers in her front yard drew compliments year after year, particularly the giant roses. Her delectable chocolate chip cookies were always a crowd pleaser at family gatherings. When there used to be such a thing as "patterns", she would keep her sewing machine busy. She had great upper body strength and up to her last day refused all assistance to rise out of a chair. She was proud that she could do it herself. Theorene never learned to drive but that didn't stop her. She once walked to 500 Post Rd in Milford. If fitbit had been invented she would have logged a weeks worth of steps every day. Theorene was an inspirational role model for her family in so many ways. She was one of the first minorities to buy a house and integrate Trowbridge Square in 1972, She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and was also active in her community as a member of Trowbridge Renaissance. Self-reliance was very important to her and she impressed upon her children how important it was to save something out of every dollar you made and that to get what you desired, you had to put in the work. To tell her no for anything made her more determined than ever, and she usually got her way because she did it for herself. Theorene's legacy was succinctly summed up by a high school friend of her daughter, "Strong, resilient, hard working, caring and loving who always placed her family first. The lessons that she has taught and exemplified in her everyday life will carry you." To us, her children, she remains a beautiful woman of God who will never be forgotten and will always be remembered for her tenacity and for being a sweet and gentle soul. She is survived by her daughter Angela S. Redic-Hatley, sons Kem A. Redic (Michelle), and Krane A, Redic, granddaughter Tanisha D. Redic and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Theorene was predeceased by siblings Christine Redic, Marion Richardson, Addie Mae Babb, Cleverne Redic Young and William "Sonny" Redic
