Shirley Bryant

Shirley T Bryant 83, of New Haven, CT, passed away Wednesday May 5th, 2021. Shirley was born on June 8th, 1937 in Greenville North Carolina to the late Samuel Bryant Sr. the late Mother Myrtle Ruth (Bryant) Moore. Shirley attended the New Haven public school system. She graduated from Hillhouse High School in the class of 1956. Shirley loved her extended family. Many enjoyable birthdays, family reunions, picnics, and holidays were spent with multi generations and was enjoyed by all. Shirley led a very active life. Full of activities. She loved to travel. She was a member bowling league, she was a very talented seamstress, and she was an amazing cook. Of all the things she did, people she met, places she had seen, most important she loved the LORD and her service to HIM. She was active in her church community and served for decades on the usher board at Christ Chapel. She stood on her post, greeted, served and cared for folks while in her service. She also had a very near and dear family with her sisters and brother of the Elks New Haven. She served in multiple positions and capacity within the organization. She was most active in the beauty and talent division and traveled near and far with the youth in the greater New Haven community. Shirley always had children in her home. Loving and firm. She took all those talents and opened a home daycare center. She nurtured and educated generations of children for 30 years. Shirley Leaves to Cherish and celebrate her life her children Charlene Douglas (Georgia), sons William Terrance Bryant (Edna), and Todd L. Bryant both of New Haven, Ct. One Sister Pamela Bryant, of California, Grand children - Russell Douglas Jr, Terrance Bryant Jr., and David Gates of New Haven, Ct., and one granddaughter Chevelle Douglas of Georgia. Shirley was blessed with great grandchildren Tyler Douglas, Jacari Douglas, Najea Petty, and Olivia Douglas. Shirley has three Godchildren - Dawn Clark, Trayton Robinson, Madison Harvin, and Jair Mathis. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, son Barry Bryant, sister Betty Clark, and brothers Edward Bryant and Jamil Abdullah (Sammy) and her life partner James Dotts.. Shirley leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Shirley is affectionately known by and called Grandma and auntie.
