Ruth Williams

Ruth Marie Williams earned her wings! On Thursday July 22, 2021, Ruth Marie Williams, peacefully transitioned from earth to rest at Connecticut Hospice surrounded by family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry (Hank) Williams. Ruth was born on July 4, 1938, in Charlottesville, VA to the late Jacob Gregory and Hazel Ann (Waller) Gregory. Ruth completed early learning in Charlottesville, VA. and was a graduate of Hill House High School, in New Haven CT. Ruth was a longtime member of Vertical Church, in West Haven, where she served faithfully on numerous Auxiliary’s. Ruth believed in the Power of Prayer and would not hesitate to pray anywhere at any time. Ruth loved people and was a helper of Everyone. Ruth was also well known for her amazing food and outpouring of gifts to not only her children, but all children she came in contact with. She provided such happy times, as children of all ages joined her with great excitement during holidays. She would transport individuals to the food bank weekly, assist neighbors, serve breakfast, transport individuals to doctor appointments, babysat children, found furniture for people in need and, so many other things, too numerous to name. Ruth is survived by her Daughter, Jacqueline McLeod (Ian) of Brooklyn, NY, Son, Gary D. Gregory, of Smyrna, GA, Stepchildren, Ricky Phillips of Cocoa beach, FL, Avis Williams, of New Haven, CT; (6) Grandchildren, Aprila Chatman (Bernie), of Rocky Hill, CT; Remington Jaz McLeod of Brooklyn, NY; Ian McLeod Jr. of Brooklyn, NY; Gary D. Gregory Jr., of New Haven, CT; Ashley Gregory, of Daytona Beach, FL. David Hudson, of SC; (4) Greatgrandchildren, Sidney Chatman; Bernard Chatman III; Liberty Angel Gregory, Isaiah McLeod. Siblings, Agnes Blagman of Barboursville, VA; Hazel “Chris” Gregory of Willimantic, CT; David Kyles Waller, of Winterville, NC; Flossie Fisher of Richmond, VA: Diane Waller Garland of Wallingford, CT; Zelda Hines, of Charlottesville, VA; and Gabriel Woodhouse of Virginia Beach, VA.; and Daughter-in-laws, Lizz McCrea, of New Haven, CT and Phyllis Thorpe Gregory of Orange, NJ. Along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by a stepson, Ronald (Tracy) Williams. Interment will follow at Hamden Plains Cemetery, Services Entrusted to McClain Funeral Services; 95 Dixwell Ave., New Haven, CT 06511.
