Ruth Mitchell

A Daughter born on October 4, 1943 to the late Rufus N. and Charlotte C. Mitchell transitioned to her heavenly home on October 21, 2020. She was born in New Haven and was a life long resident. In her early years She worked for the former Majestic Laundry. Ruth loved old school music from the fifties and sixties and would play her collection so much that her grand children learned the songs and would sing along with her. She loved going to weekend tag sales with her Uncle Albert, Aunt Emily and sisters Toni and Chey; every now and then they would let amateurs tag along. Her trips “up the way” soon became legendary in the family. A phrase she coined for her trips to the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casino’s. Ruth’s greatest joy was having all of her family around her celebrating birthday’s, major and minor holiday’s or the cookouts where her parking lot would be jam packed with cars. She made weekly family dinners on Sunday’s a must no excuses! Even if you weren't hungry you still stopped in to say hi, usually stepping into an atmosphere filled with love and noise, which she greatly enjoyed. Ruth leaves precious memories for her 6 son’s Kevin (Wanda) Mitchell of West Haven, CT, Phillip (Nadine) Mitchell of New York, Ronald (Deborah)Mitchell of West Haven, CT, Eric Mitchell of New Haven, CT, Mark (Pamela) Mitchell of Florida and Hartford, CT LaRue (Monique) Mitchell of Hamden, CT and daughters Stephanie (Demetress) Blatche of North Haven, CT and Renita (Ronald Warren) Mitchell of New Haven, CT. Ruth also leaves memories for Brother’s Frederick (Marcia) Mitchell of New Haven, CT, Theodore Mitchell of Florida, and Robert Mitchell of New Haven, CT. Along with Sister’s Toni (Elizabeth) Mitchell and Chey Mitchell of New Haven, CT. 26 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and Godson’s Jermaine (Teresa) Mitchell of New Haven and Danny (Myeshia) Mitchell of New Haven. She was predeceased by brothers Rufus Mitchell Jr. Raymond W. Mitchell and Edward M. Mitchell of New Haven, CT. Sister Linda Stevenson of North Carolina, and God son John A. Hammet Sr. Funeral Services are going to be held on October 29, 2020 at Beulah Heights Church 806 Orchard St. New Haven. Because of the large family size and Covid restrictions we are please asking all friends who come through the viewing hour from 10-10:50am to exit the building so there will be enough restricted seating for Ruth’s family.
