Ruby Stanford

Ruby Evans Stanford was born January 28, 1940, in Macon County, Montgomery Alabama to the late Mr. Ike Bell Sr. and Mrs. Girt Lue Hooks. Her early life was spent in Montgomery Alabama where she received her education. She relocated from Montgomery Alabama to Ohio and later moved to New Haven, CT. in 1961. She worked manufacturing guns at Olin Winchester Gun Factory in New Haven, CT. until her retirement. Once retired Ruby pursues full-time ministry to the sick and shut -in, she enrolled in a “Home Companion Training” and received a certification of completion in 1998, so that she could better serve this population. Ruby decided to accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and received Baptism of Holy Ghost in 1973 at Newborn Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Alton Barnes and the late Lady Dorothy Barnes. Ruby loved to read and study her bible. She cherished the relationships that she formed with the people of God! Ruby was committed to serving her family, church, and community. She was an example of the scripture “For I was hungry, and you gave me meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and you clothed me: I was sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came unto me.” (Matthew 25: 35-36) Ruby was gifted with many talents, such as seamstress and interior designer. She did not used her talents for financial gain, she believed God blessed her with creativity, so that she could be a blessing to her church and community. Her compassion and love for people earned her the name Ma Ma Ruby to all that met her, both young and old. She departed this life on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, in Bridgeport, CT., surrounded by her children, grandchildren and friends. She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters; Patricia Evans, New Haven, CT., Evelyn Martin, New Haven, CT.; three sons: Winfred Evans Hooks, New Haven, CT., Mark Evans (Meriam), New Haven, CT., Richard Youins, New Haven, CT., two special daughters, Carolyn Coore, New Haven, CT. Dorothea Gant, New Haven, CT. and special son Leroy Grant, Jr., New Haven, CT.; five sisters Ms. Camellia A. Hooks, Montgomery, AL., Mrs. Camella Hooks Oliver, Montgomery, AL., Ora Johnson, (Joe), Cairo GA., Viola Roberson, Clearwater, FL., Weaonah O’Neil, Martinez, GA.; two brothers Booker Bell (Emma), Chicago IL., Ike Bell, Jr. (Conshia), Matawan New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Winfred Evans, Jr.( Mesha-Jeter-Evans), Martin Evans(Tiara Evans), Marcus Parker(Shatterra Taylor), Amber Evans Jackson, Mikhail Evans, Destiny Alston Evans, Christiana Evans; 10 great grandchildren, Special friends, Catherine Bowden, Mary Smalls, Roberta Jenkins; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and most of all her Holy Trinity COGIC church family. Predeceased by best friends Lady Dorothy Barnes, Shirley Moody.
