Roosevelt Ellis Evans Jr.

Reflections of Life I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course I have kept the faith. On Jan 9, 2018 Mr. Roosevelt Ellis Evans Jr. quietly and peacefully entered eternal rest with his family by his side. A Time to be Born Roosevelt affectionately known as “Roo” a vibrant gift of life was born in Palatka, Florida to the late Roosevelt Evans Sr. and Agnes Fuce Alexander. Portrait of Life Roo spent his early years growing up in Florida and attended the Palatka Public School system. Before settling in New Haven Roo lived briefly in the Carolinas as well as New York. In his younger years Roo was passionate and committed to his social clubs and activities. He loved skating and was an avid skater for The Royal 26 skating club. He was an Honorary Exalted Ruler for Elks Lodge #141 for many years, a member of Orange Blossom Social Club, Honorary Deputy Sherriff for the town of Derby, Ct and a longstanding and faithful member of the Knickerbockers Golf Club. A Time to Live Roo was a hard worker, who was dedicated to his family and his job. He loved spending quality time with family, friends and he worked for Sperry and Barnes for many years retiring from Yale University after 35 years of service. He was also of man of fashion and loved to model and coordinate fashion shows for the Elks. Roo found a new passion which was gospel music. He later joined St. Matthews Freewill Baptist church and managed a group called the Gospel Echo’s. He remained a faithful member to his ministry until his illness. A Time to Die On January 9, 2018 our heavenly father sent an angel to escort Roosevelt into eternal rest. He is predeceased in death by brothers, Luvette, Herbert, and Daniel Evans and one sister Mary Evans. A Time to Mourn Lasting memories will be forever cherished by his children, daughters Rosalee(Manuel) Williamson of New Haven, Patricia Barrett, of Chapel Hill North Carolina. Son Keith (Dani) Ross of Bowie, Maryland. Brothers, Joseph (Shelia) Alexander of New Haven, Pastor Cecil Alexander of Orlando Florida and Willie Alexander, of Florida. Sisters, Cecelia (Bishop H. Golston) of West Haven, CT, Evelyn (Eugene) Davis of Palatka, Florida. Roo is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
