Raymond H Stuckey

Raymond Harold Stuckey, affectionately known as “Big Ray,” “Rapid Ray,” and “Poppy,” was born on January 25, 1942, in Pamplico, South Carolina, to the late Rayfield and Dorothy (Timmons) Stuckey. On Thursday, August 20, 2026, he peacefully departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest. Raymond received his early education at Gibbs High School, proudly graduating with the Class of 1960. During his time there, he served as a school bus driver—an early sign of the responsibility, reliability, and care that would define his life’s journey. After graduation, he began working at Marsh Plywood Lumber Company. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Laura Mae Dozier, and on March 18, 1963, they were united in marriage, beginning a beautiful union that would span 63 blessed years. In 1967, Raymond relocated to Middletown, Connecticut, where he became employed with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and later Middlesex Hospital. After 30 dedicated years with Pratt & Whitney, he retired—only to continue serving his community as a Taxi Cab driver with Executive 2000. His impeccable timeliness earned him the nickname “Rapid Ray,” as he faithfully transported clients to their appointments with care and consistency. For over 50 years, Raymond was a devoted member of Cross Street AME Zion Church, serving under the leadership of the late Reverend Douglas Lawrence, Presiding Elder Moses Harvill, and Reverend Robyn Anderson. His service as a Trustee and active participant in the Men’s Ministry reflected his deep commitment to faith, fellowship, and community. In 1980, Raymond became one of the founding members of George W. Crawford Lodge #21, where he later served two years as Worshipful Master. His leadership, integrity, and brotherhood left a lasting imprint on the Lodge and its members. Raymond was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Ada Stuckey Ellison, and brother Roscoe Stuckey. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Laura Mae (Dozier) Stuckey; his children: Bishop Harold Windell (Patricia) Edwards (Leesburg, GA), Raymond L. “Pete” Stuckey (Middletown, CT); Bonus Son Michael F. Williams (Gresham, SC); daughters Trial Elder Glenda Faye Stuckey (Middletown, CT), Minister Keisha Charmaine Stuckey (Middletown, CT); and Bonus Daughter Lonita Edwards (Hyman, SC). He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: Wilma (Bert) Robinson (Somerset, NJ), Rayfield (Goldie) Stuckey (Johnsonville, SC), Alma (Gene) Squires (Durham, NC), Randolph Stuckey (Johnsonville, SC), Virginia (Julius “Vern”) (Johnsonville, SC); Sister‑in‑law Georgia Stuckey; his special uncle Mitchell Timmons (Cambria Heights, NY); Goddaughter Ruth Jackson (Detroit, MI); eight grandchildren; twenty great‑grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and cherished friends. Raymond’s life was one of service, love, faith, and unwavering dedication. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
