Overseer Henry E. Smith

Overseer Dr. Henry E. Smith, age 85 of West Haven, CT departed this life for his eternal home on March 10, 2016. He was born to the late Walter and Clara Jane Smith on May 1, 1930 in Pitt County, N.C. He was the fifth child of seven children. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife Minister Rosa V. Smith. Overseer Henry Smith received his education from H.B Suggs School in Farmville, N.C. He left Farmville, N.C to join the US Army serving in the Korean War. He was a dedicated employee of Pratt & Whitney for many years before retiring. He was a faithful member of the St. Matthews Free Will Baptist Church for 15 Years under the leadership of his pastor, the late Rev. Lloyd Taylor. In 1972 the Mount Gideon Unified Free Will Baptist Church was founded by Pastor Henry E. Smith. Then in 1985 Mount Gideon Unified Free Will Baptist Church name was changed to Mount Gideon Faith Fellowship Church Inc. Overseer Henry E. Smith, had a Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Universal Bible Institute. He was a member of Word of Faith Ministries Fellowship of Inner City, which Frederick K.C. Price is President and Founder. He was also a member of A.I.M. Association of Independent Ministries which Bishop I.V. Hilliard is President and Founder. Overseer Smith, is an approved teacher of the Evangelical Teacher Training Association Certificate Courses. He had successfully completed the English Bible, Church History, Homiletics, and Pastoral Theology courses at the American Bible College. He has received a diploma from Prison Fellowship under the direction of Charles W. Colson. He attended Gateway Community College working towards an Associate Degree in Literature. He was a faithful, dedicated, caring pastor who loved the members. He was known as a great faith teacher of the word of God. A man of integrity who truly loved the Lord. He was an accomplished trumpet player who often ministered in spiritual songs that would bless those that heard him. His imparted wisdom will always remain with us. Overseer Henry E. Smith leaves to cherish his precious memories seven sons Pastor Gary (Lady Joyce) Hyman Sr. of West Haven, CT, Dr. Raymond Herring of Birmingham, AL, Robert (Bernice) Herring of West Haven, CT, Dr. Ricardo (Anita) Herring of Birmingham, AL, Dr. Shane Perrault, of Greenbelt, MD, Renown Chief Brett (Siri) Smith of Atlanta, GA, Dr. Gene Smith of Atlanta, GA; one daughter Sharon S. Reese of West Haven, CT and he also leaves behind a caring and loving brother, Morris (Barbara) Smith of Bridgeport, CT, 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
