Mother Patrica Gilliam

Patricia Ann Braddy-Gilliam was born on September 28, 1947 to the late Rayford Boykin, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Mathis Boykin in Clinton, NC. She departed this life on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in New Haven, CT. Patricia’s parents moved to Chicago for a short period of time and then migrated to New Haven, CT, where she attended Troop Middle School and graduated from James Hillhouse High School in 1964. Patricia was employed at Pratt & Whitney (United Technology) in North Haven as well as East Hartford, retiring after 35 years where she was a NDT Specialist. She was very well loved by all that she trained under this title. Patricia also played for Pratt & Whitney’s all female softball team for a number of years. Patricia was a very active church member. She was a member of Pitts Chapel UFWB Church for 35 years. She was mother of the church for 20 plus years, promoted to head mother in early 2022, and choir president for 30 plus years. She was a member of the Gospelites, (President) E and E Choir (Esther and Elijah Davis Choir- President), which she originally started with Founder Esther Davis, the Pitts Chapel Mass Choir and the Pitts Chapel Choir. Patricia also served as one of the lead members for Pitts Chapel Kitchen Committee and served as Home Mission. In 2017 and 2018, Patricia attended Unified Free Will Baptist School of Biblical Studies, Northern Connecticut and Massachusetts Annual Conference, under the leadership of Dr. Katrina O. Dortch (Dean) and Bishop Elijah Davis and received her certification of completion and The Works of the Flesh and the Fruit of the Spirit Award, The Book of Exodus Award, The Book of Genesis Award, Perfect Attendance Award, Honor Roll and the Spiritual Formation Award. Patricia leaves to cherish her memories, beloved husband Jasper E. Gilliam, Jr, daughters, Darlene Braddy-Huskey (Micheal), who she affectionately called Doll and grandma of Hamden, who she shared a special song with when departing each other, “You Are My Sunshine”, Sonya Gilliam (Linwood) of Hamden, Vickie Peele (Bethel, North Carolina), and several bonus daughters, Erica Acres, Felicia Melvin, and Antionette Walker. Her only brother Rayford Boykin, Jr (Denise) of Bridgeport. Carolyn Moore (Luther) of Clinton, NC, Delores Browning of New Haven, CT, who were cousins, but raised as sisters. A host of nephews and her special niece (her twin) Zulnae McCotter. Her dear friends Mary Nelson, Edna Edwards, Min. Theresa Boyd, Evelyn Cousins as well as many other relatives and friends.
