Mary Lennon

Mary Ann Lennon, departed this earthly realm to eternal rest with her Heavenly Father, on March 7, 2025, at Hospice of Chesapeake, Waldorf, MD. Born on February 1, 1941, to the late Nathaniel William Smith and the late Annie C Suggs Smith, Mary was the "knee-baby" and youngest daughter of six siblings. She was educated in Greene County, North Carolina, and earned her high school diploma from Greene County Training School in 1958. During the height of the civil rights movement, she migrated to New Haven, Connecticut, and was employed by various manufacturing corporations. In 1967, while employed by Whitney Blake, she met the love of her life, Wesley B. Lennon Sr. Together they lived in holy matrimony for 42 years and created a family filled with love and memories! She was later employed by US Repeating Arms (Winchester Rifles) for decades until her retirement in 2006. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with an infectious laugh, a radiant smile, and a calming disposition that instantly put others at ease. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading the Word of God, listening to old-school gospel, preparing meals and desserts, and spending time surrounded by family celebrating milestones. Her faith and quiet spirit were the very essence of her being. Whether serving through her fraternal organizations (Eastern Stars, Herions of Jericho and DOI), her beloved St. Matthews UFW Baptist Church, or her own philanthropic endeavors (American Cancer Society, Jerry’s kids and St. Jude), community service was central to her life until her health began to deteriorate. For over 15 years, she bravely fought and overcame tremendous health battles! Each time, she stood on faith and declared victory over her illnesses! Her story will live on in the life and legacy of all she helped along the way! "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever!" Psalm 23:6 She leaves to mourn her daughter, Veronica Lennon Huntley (Leon) of Waldorf, MD; her son, Wesley B. Lennon Jr. (Nicole) of Hamden, CT; her sister, Glennie Harris New Haven, CT; and her sisters-in-law, Bessie Smith, Lula Morrison, and Doshau Thompson, all of Connecticut, Annie Shipman of Phoenix, AZ, and Patricia Raines of Upper Marlboro, MD. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sharise Lennon Hyattsville, MD, Dimitrius Huntley (Monique) and Zuri Huntley (Johnathan Sanders), both of Largo, MD; Wilson Staton, Wesley Lennon III (Tipphini White), and Aaliyah Staton, all of Hamden, CT; and Zion Huntley Waldorf, MD. Her great-grandchildren include Jaiden Mednez, Kayla Melton, Chloe Huntley, Wilson Staton, Kelyse Melton, Kai Singleton, and Cody Staton. She was predeceased by her loving husband Wesley Lennon Sr., and siblings Orlander Lewis, Thomas Lewis, Nathaniel Smith, Raymond Smith.
