Mae Von Jones

Mae V. Jones was born April 7, 1950 to the late Carson & Ernestein Coleman in Lakeview SC. She was 1 of 11 children. She met her husband Bobby E. Jones shortly after arriving in CT in 1969 and they were married for over 40 years; from that union 2 children were born; April Jones-Deans and Bobby E. Jones II. Mae attended Columbus High School in Lakeview, SC and graduated in 1968. She moved to New Haven, CT soon after graduation. Maevon was a hard working woman who attended OIC Technical School and learned her business skills. In 1969 ,she was employed at SNET, Southern New England Telephone Company; at a young age she retired in 1995. She worked at various places during her retirement, staying busy and paid. She went back to work for the telephone company in 1998 and retired a second time in 2019. All in all, Mae V. Jones gave over 40 years of service. Mae was a God-Fearing woman consistently given thanks and sending up praises. Mae also became a member of Mount Calvary Deliverance Tabernacle Church in 1972. During a period, she was the secretary of the church and later she joined the Sons & Daughters of Zion choir. Maevon had a high level of humility, patience, faith and courage. Her humorous personality will always keep you interested and happy. She values certain principles to her core. Honesty, loyalty and integrity flows through every cell of her being daily. For the ones who got a chance to cross paths with her witnessed & experienced her physical, spiritual, emotional, and psychological strength; “that she put on the forefront”. She often thought of others more than she thought of herself and would give the shirt off of her back. She loved music and young Mae loved some Betty Wright! She loved to dance, go to the casino, cook and visit her family in South Carolina often. Mae had a beautiful smile and we all know that she had an infectious laugh! Mae V. Jones answered the Lord’s call to final rest in the early morning of January 27, 2024. She leaves to cherish her memories; son Bobby E. Jones II of Hamden, CT; two daughters April S.(Oama) Deans of Hamden CT and Tanya J. Styron of NC; brothers; Carson(Bertha); Douglas(Denise); McArthur(Mary); Joseph(Willa); Depree(Loretta); sisters Virgie; Loretta(Alonzo) and Linda(Wesley). Ten grandchildren: Jamar, Zion, Divine, Dinero, Amazen, Amir, Ashante, JonQuay, Terrel, Malika and six great grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memories with aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Bobby E. Jones, her brothers Carlton and RC and sisters Joyce and Phyllis. The family would like to give a special thanks to Ann, Debbie, Danielle and Uncle Mickey!
