Lucy E. Green

Lucy Elizabeth (Cohens) Green, 104, of Glastonbury, CT, peacefully transitioned to her eternal heavenly home on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 with her loving family by her side. “Mother Green” as she was affectionately called by many, was born on January 12, 1920, to the late George and Theresa Cohens, in Glastonbury, CT. After the sudden, untimely death of her father, Lucy’s Mom later packed up the family of eight children and moved to Hartford, CT where Lucy continued her education in the Hartford Public School System. During her school years, she became an avid basketball player (Point Guard). she was a big fan of the UConn Huskies for decades. Up until the time she transitioned, she never missed a game. In 1937, she met, fell in love and married (Thomas Green) and later moved to New Britain, CT. The Lord saw fit to bestow upon this union four children: the late Suffragan Bishop George M. Green, the late Van Thomas Green, Alberta Yvonne Hardy and Blossom Elona Rose. In 1958 Lucy began attending Bethesda Apostolic Church (New Britain, CT) under the leadership of the late District Elder John P. Shaw where she was baptized and later became a member. In 1959 she was blessed and filled with the wonderful and precious gift of the Holy Ghost! Glory to God! Lucy was an active member of Bethesda Apostolic Church for many years before the Lord sent her to Bethel Apostolic Church (Middletown) and later to her current church New Covenant Apostolic (Plainville) founded by her son, Suffragan Bishop George M. Green. Mother Green loved the Lord! She was a faithful member wherever she served. Her commitment to serving God included: Serving as a Missionary, Sunday School Teacher, Usher Board, Choir Member, Youth For Christ Dept., Corresponding Secretary and also participated in the cleaning and the upkeep of the sanctuary. All for the glory of God! Mother Green will be most remembered for her unwavering “Love” and “Fear” of God! There was not one day of her life that she didn’t tell somebody something about the goodness of God! She will be remembered for her display of “Agape Love” to any and everyone she met. (Definition) “Love as revealed in Jesus, seen as spiritual and selfless; A model for humanity; Love that is spiritual and selfless in its nature” Her door was always open to everyone. Mother Green will be remembered for her Love and Fear of God, her “Enormous” Faith, her Strength, her Belief in the Power of Prayer, as well as her “unique” gift of sharing and spreading God’s Word through her writings and creative art form. Throughout the years she has made and given out hundreds of hand written books carrying God’s Word to friends, family and even to those whom she did not know. Her books have gone as far as Africa. And last, but certainly not least, Mother Green’s extraordinary words of: Wisdom and Knowledge; Comfort and Encouragement; Humor and Joy; and her Love and Faith in God have: fed many a soul, brightened many a dark day, warmed many a hearts and more importantly, inspired many to come to Know and Love the Lord! She once said: … ”It is my hope that through the life I live and the things I do, ALL would see Christ in me and come to know Him personally.” ~Lucy E. Green She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her Legacy her two daughters, Alberta Hardy (Harold) of Glastonbury; Blossom Rose of Middletown; an honorary son and daughter John and Bellamy Ugbomoiko; one sister, Nellie Cohens Wright (101 years young). She also leaves five generations of Grandchildren, Great-Grands, Great-Great Grands and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, god children, friends and extended family that she adopted into the fold over the years. Mother Green will join both her father and mother, George and Theresa Cohens; her sons George (Louvenia) and Van Green; her five brothers George, Johnnie, Bennie, Charlie and Kay Cohens; and four sisters Lillie-Bell and Carrie-Bell Cohens, Yvonne Satterfield and Lillian Polite who have gone on before her….If she were here today she would say: “JESUS” IS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME” TRY HIM!
