Lillie V. Cain

Lillie Vena Cain, a resident of Middletown, transitioned to her eternal reward on January 28, 2023. “Venie”, as she was affectionately called by her friends and family, was born on February 19, 1940, to the late James and Tiller Weston in Georgetown, South Carolina. Lillie Cain graduated from Choppee High School in Georgetown County, S.C. in 1960 as the Valedictorian of her class. In 1961, she moved to Connecticut where she met the “love of her life,” the late Roosevelt Cain, and the two were tied together in holy matrimony on July 3, 1965. The union birthed two children, Roosevelt and Deborah Cain. Lillie retired from Northeast Utilities after over 30+ years of service. Later she worked in the Middletown Public School system as a Paraprofessional at Keigwin Middle School for 10 years. She earned her Associate in Science of Business Administration from Middlesex Community College. Lillie Cain loved the Lord! She was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for 62 years. She served on the Trustee Board, Usher Board, Gospel Chorus, Mother Board, Mass Choir, Missionary Ministry, Pastor Aid Society, and Teacher of the Evangelism Class and Sunday school. Lillie Cain was very active in her community and was a member of numerous organizations. She was a long-standing member of the Order of Eastern Star, PHA and served in the following capacities: Naomi Chapter No. 9, Past Worthy Matron of Miriam Chapter No. 26, District Deputy and the Grand Treasurer of Prince Hall Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, State of Connecticut and Tamar Court No. 1 as the Most Ancient Matron. Lillie will be remembered for her lovely smile and her boisterous laugh. She loved to cook, and if you were ever blessed to place your foot under her table, you were always in for a great treat. She was most famous for her peach cobbler, turkey wings, and her yellow rice! She enjoyed gardening, tending to her plants, socializing with her friends, reading, watching movies, and playing word search and solitaire. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Roosevelt (Shannon) Cain of Cromwell, CT and her daughter Deborah V. Cain of Middletown, CT; three grandchildren, Zoe Kincy, Isaiah and Caleb Cain of Cromwell, CT, and one great-grandchild, Zion Serrao; two sisters, Mable McKnight of Fort Wayne, IN, Mary (William) Turner of Meriden, CT and one brother, John (Emma) Weston of East Hampton, CT; one God-daughter, Lashonda Crump of Middletown, CT; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and one special best friend, Dr. Marvalene Haynes.
