Laura Allston Johnson-Herring

Laura A. Johnson-Herring, affectionately known to her family as “Old Lady, or Big Laura”, departed this life Saturday evening, May 26, 2018 at home surrounded by her Family in New Haven, Connecticut. She was born April 5, 1930 at 107 Dixwell Avenue, in New Haven the daughter of the late Walter N. and Hilda Ralston Allston. She was formally educated in the public schools, Commercial High School. She worked in New Haven and was formally employed at G & O Manufacturing Co. and Winchesters. Also, she was a member of Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hamden for many years. Mrs. Johnson-Herring was Loved and a mother to many in her family and friends. She kept her children and family very close to her. If you needed food or shelter, she made room for you to stay. Feeding ten plus people for dinner was never a problem for Mrs. Herring. She had an open door policy when it came to family. She was kept up to date on everything that was going on with her children and family, and let them know it when she seen them. If she don’t see you in a few days, she would call you and say “Are you coming over today?”. She believed that everyone has different needs. And she was there for everyone. What a remarkable Mother she was that taught everyone the values of being a close Family. Mrs. Johnson-Herring Was very active in the home care of her Mother Hilda, Brother Collie, and Sister Lillian during their illness until they passed.
