Kyssandra A. Miller

Kyssandra Althea Miller, 43, was called home on Sunday, September 13th, 2020 at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. She was born December 19th, 1976 in New Haven, CT to Jerome Moody and Patricia Eleanor Douglas. Kyssandra graduated from West Haven Highschool, Class of 1994, immediately demonstrating her high intellectual abilities. Shortly after, she decided to dedicate her life to the betterment of others by declaring a career in medicine. Her medical career began and continued into the mid to late 90’s with employment in various nursing homes and Yale New Haven Hospital as a CNA and PCA. Eager to elevate academically and professionally, Kyssandra returned back to school at Eli Whitney in Hamden, CT where she obtained her LPN licensure and graduated at the top of her class. Her first position as an LPN was at the Willows of Woodbridge in Woodbridge, CT. She worked there several years until residentially moving to West Haven, CT and transitioning to Paradigm Healthcare (formerly known as Bentley Gardens). With an immeasurable source of perseverance and motivation, Kyssandra re-enrolled to further her educational attainment and professional prospects—this time in New York, NY. While attending Helene Fuld College of Nursing, she commuted by train religiously Monday - Friday until impressively completing her RN certification and receiving some of the institution’s most prestigious awards. Upon graduating, she received an offer of employment from Yale New Haven Hospital as a Pediatric Nurse. She left the hospital to begin work at Soundview Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in West Haven, CT as a Wound Dressing Specialist. Opportunity continued to favor her as she secured a job as an RN for the State of Connecticut’s Department of Corrections, where she held different titles in more than one facility—escalating all the way to the administration level of Nursing as a Supervisor. Kyssandra’s employment for the State of Connecticut’s Department of Corrections lasted over 10 years, ending at Cheshire Correctional Institution in Cheshire, CT. Kyssandra is survived by her parents Jerome (Angela) Moody and Patricia Douglas; father of her children, Edward Miller Jr.; children Jana Douglas MPA, MPP, Private Justin Miller, and Kayla Miller; siblings Donald Douglas Jr., Janice (Terrence) White, Karen Dixon, Aaron (Dominique) Moody, and Darius Moody; maternal grandmother Rupercia Lawrence; a host of aunts and uncles; and many loved and adored nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by paternal grandmother Annie Ruth Moody; maternal grandfather Vernal Douglas; uncles Willie and Lamar Moody; and aunts Mary, Shirley, and Annie Lee Moody.
